In the wake of a cosmic cataclysm, a group of four explorers hits the multiverse to venture into the fantastic! No... not that team. It's DC's newest band of superheroes! In this edition of Comic Accurate, it's The Terrifics!
In last year's recent crossover event, Metal: Dark Knights, the DC Universe was introduced to the Dark Multiverse. Which I guess isn't part of the 52 other universes or a Hypertime thing. I honestly don't know. I checked out the second I heard the main villains were just a bunch of evil versions of Batman.
But anyways, after it wrapped up, DC launched several new titles spinning out of it in their "New Age of Heroes". One of which was a new series centered around Mr. Terrific and a team he's in charge of. In the first issue, Mr. Terrific goes to Stagg Industries to find its evil CEO Simon Stagg is trying to use Metamorpho to breach the Dark Multiverse. Mr. Terrific brings out Plastic Man to rescue Metamorpho, but in the process, they're pulled through the gateway and end up on a different world where they run into Linnya Wazzo.
Which means that in an incredible display of haste in the comic industry, the entire team is brought together in it's first issue. It doesn't take a whole arc to get the whole group together. So let's just enjoy this while it happens and this fantastic foursome is our build...
Why these figures - The problem with this build is that if you'd rather a given version of one of the characters, you have to make sacrifices in other areas. Want to use the versions of Phantom Girl from the Superman and the Legion set? You have to downgrade the others to make it work. Same goes for Con Exclusive Plastic Man and Rex Mason from the Batman set. Or you may have to downgrade Mr. Terrific, the namesake of this team, to the Experienced or even the Rookie versions. And that sounds wrong. So I went with Vet Mr. Terrific and just dealt with using the old Legion starter version of Phantom Girl so I could at least get playable versions of Metamorpho and Plas.
Tips for running this team - You're basically pairing your team off; Plas can carry the Element Man while Phantom Girl stays next to Terrific. The best bonus in the latter duo is that she can wild card the JSA team ability and chain that eighteen defense to Terrific. While Element Man and Plastic Man are tying up the opposition, Phantom Girl can taxi Terrific around to try and Incap them (and damage them with Stunning Blow tacked on).
Let us know how The Terrifics do for you! Next week, it's a new issue of Unclixed! Then in two weeks, it's another edition of Comic Accurate!
Heck I read metal and I still don't know what it was about. I really like this team though and I desperately want a new low cost Legion set sometime before I die. Great article!
it's a crime that mr. terrific hasn't been remade yet. as it stands he'll be an SR for sure with special t-balls or something. also i want a plastic man that is more than a tie up piece. he's a powerhouse in the comics and i wish that was shown in clix form.
@antonio.clark.art is my instagram.take a look and tell me what you think....be blessed!!!
Neat. I am considerably past 300 pt builds but this looks like a fun team.
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!
I'd rather have either of the SLOSH Phantom Girls even though they are extremely niche. And then lower the points on Mr. Terrific. With bad stats, you might as well just take the cheapest one you can get your hands on.
with the other two you have listed, it's 300.
I only know this, because I was thinking about the same thing, until I was disappointed by the comic. It's not bad. It's just not what I was expecting from Lemire.
This is why I love DC comics. If Marvel won’t let us have the Fantastic Four, DC fills the gap!
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash
Not So Special, Monster Hunter & Inside Information to try and get some kind of attack/damage bump from Terrific.
I get that a con ex, might not be everyone's go-to for availability issues, (I scooped up one on the secondary market and paid less than the price of a booster for it), but Plastic Man (& Phantom Girl) can provide the PD TA to help lower defense values for a more "Fair Play" kind of game.
I like the 72 point PG the most as she adds some form of move and attack to an otherwise un-mobile team. It's rare to see a team of what are otherwise classic tie up & utility pieces, and looks like a lot of fun to play.
coming soon : nu52 Hercules

Used the JW Plastic Man in a game recently after overlooking him since the set came out and he tied up over a 100pts of my opponents team, in addition to be being a taxi. Only sad part was that I missed all of my rolls w/ him so he never got to TAG marker anyone.
I have used that Element Man to great affect a number of times. He is well worth his points.
I am really surprised that modern Mister Terrific hasn't been remade for any of the carded eras, especially recently since he's been featured in the CW DCverse.
ASK ME ONCE I’LL ANSWER TWICE JUST WHAT I KNOW I’LL TELL BECAUSE I WANNA!

I'm a little surprised no one has talked about JL Plastic-Man. I always found him terribly useful with his flight and move and attack. A Not So Special helps his attack value somewhat.

First, I love that we're still picking this team apart. When the comic was announced I put together the team I posted above and have been HOPING for a new Mr. Terrific. Alas.
If you use the Justice League Plas you have to downgrade to the Exp Mr. Terrific:
