Goodbye 2018 and hello 2019!

Gargantua and I are playing a pair of vanilla games where we pit favorite Avengers against their foes. In one game each we play the Avengers, in the other the Masters of Evil and other Avengers bad guys. This will be a typical replacement game to 2k in points.

If we like this we may extend this to a few other teams.

Iron Man flies in to fanfare as he arrives at Avengers tower with the Scarlet Witch in his arm.

"Ah, the adoring public," Iron Man says. "Aren't they wonderful? Like a faithful pet that turns on you and bites you in the a----".

"Janet! Scott!" Wanda says moving in to hug the pair. "How are you?".

"Happy to be here," Ant-Man says.

"Me too! And it looks like we've got a full cast of characters!" Wasp says. "There's Spider-Man and Moon---".

"---Dragon for the last time, get out of my head," Spider-Man insists. "Leave my secrets to me."

"I am not interested in your 'secrets'," Moondragon replies, "Only to set up a psychic link with us all here, in case of an emergency. Besides, why would I care that you never got a puppy dog for your 7th Christmas and it's haunted you since."

"Hey!" he yells out.

"Hey yourself!" Captain Marvel responds. "Me and Doc just got here, did we miss anything?".

"Nothing important," Dr. Strange says, "But that's just changed. Dramatically. Avengers, we are not alone."

"You're just jealous now," Moonstone taunted him.

"No, Zemo is right. It's nauseating," Crimson Cowl said.

"If you don't want to see it, I can easily black it out," Blackout said.

"It won't change it," Songbird said.

"No. Only one thing will change it. Grinding the Avengers down beneath out bootheel," Ultron said.

Oh, these beginnings are so dull. I wonder if we should mix things up with the start of games. Something like putting half of our team starting on lines 8 and 16 instead of the starting area.

I'm in for 150 more than you, I can't afford to risk much. Moondragon tks Superior to E10.

He/they charge to F15, snagging the lo en route, attacking BD. Flurries on him. Needs 6, rolls 7. 2 to him. Attacks again needing 6-1, rolls 6. Another to him.

I hope I don't regret that.

I do agree that these starts are dull. Obviously the first turn can't be super exciting, and I can even live with a turn 2 clear, but after that, something should be happening. It isn't chess. Let's move the discussion to PM.

Hate to pick on him, since the retaliation is a big part of what makes us overly cautious, but Piledriver Charges to G16 on Ock, AV10 +1 from Zemo on DV18. Gest 7. SS is 5

Ultron on Superior AV10 +1 on DV18. Gets 9. SS is 3. 3 to Superior.

Bulldozer on Superior, AV9 no DV18. Gets a surprising 11. SS is 3 2 more to Ock.

Rather than pressing on him, I'll have Moonstone go for a little first strike of my own. She'll take Piledriver with her, for protection, RS to F11, F10 for PD, shoots at Captain Marvel, AV10 +1 on DV17. Gets 4.

Okay maybe I will take another shot at Superior. Blackout gets Sidestep from Zemo, goes to H17 on Superior, AV10 +1 on DV17. Gets 7. SS is 1. 2 after Toughness KOs him.

"Come on," Moonstone told Piledriver. "They can deal with the Spider. We can start pick off other targets."

"But I like it when it's eight against one," Piledriver protested.

"A coward and a bully at heart. Not surprised," Moonstone said, taking a shot at Captain Marvel.
