We've all been there. You're playing a match. You've had one turn, your opponent is on their second turn. It's been 30 minutes. They know how to play, you've seen them for years. They're hoping for time to be called before they clear and give you the turn. You start looking and see that you've done damage, but need a bit more to score some points.
Frustrating right? That "W" is so close. If you can just get one more turn. Well, this scenario is the direct cause of of that. Whether you have a player that purposely stalls, doesn't know how to play their team, or is so afraid to lose even one figure, they hold back to the point of not really playing, this scenario will help!
This game encourages a more aggressive style. At the end of the game, you each look at your opponent's figures, and see how many clicks of damage have been dealt. A figure on click 5 has taken 4 clicks. Multiply that by 10 and you get that many points! Pushing, Poison, any damage counts! Also, if you manage to KO some figures, you can choose one of them and double their point value. This should help you score some points against one of the above players. This also helps out with the new rule of a zero point tie being a loss for both players. If you knicked one figure, you have SOMETHING!
Now, this still could encourage stalling or holding back. If you think that will be a problem, throw in a "Shock the Turtle" stipulation! That'll throw a wrench into the mix.
If you've never played "Shock the Turtle", after X amount of rounds, you "shrink" the map by one row on each side, and one column on each side. You'll move it in one again at the start of each of player 1's turns. Any figure that occupies or is behind the barrier is dealt unavoidable damage. It forces players to the center of the map. I like to put a special token in each corner of the map, and move it in one square diagonal towards the center. Easy marker.
Hopefully this will help that player speed up their game, and gain some confidence to play!
That's it for this edition of Causing a Scene-ario! See ya next time!
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
Shock the turtle is a staple of WK since the near the beginning of the game. I know I played it with Ultimates Captain Britain. I recall that the rules had an additional stipulation; if some character took the one of the four squares on the center of the map and were alone they could declare 1 click of unavoidable damage on the opponent (no range or line of fire limitations).
They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." Robert Downey/Tony Stark
I wish more battle royales were played with these rules. It really can test skill and creates more opportunities for your opponent to mess up.
