Archfiend of Gilfer is on the field, and a powered up (equiped) Ghost Knight of Jackal attacks and destroies the Archfiend of Gilfer. Now there are two conflecting effects resolving at the same time, which one works?
I believe the person whose turn it is will put their effect on the chain first, then if the other player chooses their effect will go next. The effect placed on the chain last will resolve basically negating the next effect since the card will not be in the graveyard. Not familair with the Archfiend of Gilfer, but usually this is what happens when two effects need to resolve at the same time.
Both players have an optional effect whose condition will be meet, therefore both should get the opportunity to activate effects. Someone more familiar with the two cards can chime in. I am just presenting some of the game mechanics.
Well, yes, presuming both wish to activate the effect (and can i.e room in Magic/Trap and monster zone opean)
Also, as to pirority, I didn't think either cards were on the list of cards with pirority.
Secondaly,

Archfiend of Gilfer's effect WILL NOT activate since the last thing to happen is it being Special Summoned to the field in face up DEF by Ghost Knight
The effect of being sp. summoned from the graveyard takes place when the monster goes to the graveyard. In adation, Archfiend of Gilfer's effect resolves at the same moment, therefore I disagree with your explonatation, although I donot know if your ans is right. ;)
thanks for the help, and I hompe more thought will flow in,
Andy

It's not about the cards having priority ,its about the players having it. When the two effects triggered each player will have the opportunity to put their effect on the chain. If one does not chose to then you dont have a problem. The other effect will resolve the way it is stated on the card. However if both want to activate the effect then the chain will be used with turn player putting their effect on first. In this case the person with Ghost Knight, then the Archfiend effect will go on the chain. The chain will resolve backwards and the Archfiend player will be able to equip the Archfiend to another monster on the field. Then when Ghost Knight attempts to resolve, the Archfiend will be gone so the effect of Ghost Knight is negated..or basically nothing happens for its effect.
When two effects of the same speed are trying to resolve at the same time, the turn player has priority to place his effect in chain link 1. Whether or not he does so, the priority is then passed to the opponent. If he refuses to start the chain, then the turn player MUST put an effect in chain link 1.
It continues as such for the next while.
BOTH effects activate when he is sent to the graveyard, and so BOTH effects are trying to resolve at the same time. It stands to reason that the turn player loses out in this situation.
