When you flip summon your own monster, it goes into attack position, correct? And then, if you do not attack with that monster, can you switch it into defense mode in your Main Phase II of the same turn it was flip summoned?
A Flip Summon the the process of turning a Face-down DEF monster to Face-up ATK. Since you are changing it from DEF to ATK, you have already used up its position change for that turn.
Yes, when you Flip Summon a monster, it goes to attack position. No, you cannot change the battle position of a monster in the same turn it was summoned except by the effect of another card or its own card effect, such as the effect of Royal Keeper.
the point of defense monsters are too protect your field...the only way a face down def. monster can be turned into face up def. is if it was attacked and not destroyed...plus there are more complicated questions than this dealing with tournaments and if these are the things your fighting about at your tourney then i want to go there cause that would mean mass ownage

There other ways to turn your monster onto face-up defense position, as like Book of Taiyou, Light of Intervention, flip it ans stumble it........ in b/w others.......

Have you read Book of Taiyou lately?
It says to flip a face down monster into face up attack mode.
It says to flip a face down monster into face up attack mode.
Did they change it????? ................. just asking cause last time I checked it did not flip summoned your monster, it only flips it............. now if there was an errata, i'll be glad to know cause I run 3 BOT.......
There has NEVER been an errata to "Book of Taiyou". You need to read cards before making calls, deck_wraith
I was just asking........... sorry if i'm wrong........ I just thought so, since there's a few threads in this forums that say that BOT would not flip summon your monster, theres even a thread saying that there was an errata about it......... I have 3 cards and they all say flip face-up....... but when I saw this threads and other webs (pojo) I thought differently............... sorry for my mistake...........
BOT is not considered a flip summons, but it does put your monster in face up ATTACK position. However cards that need to be flip summoned to recieve an effect will not receive their effect.
deck_wraith, I'd like to answer your question if I can.
The problem is that you are confusing "flipping" a monster with "flip Summoning" a monster.
While miniscule, there ARE still differences and must therefore be treated differently:
The Flip Summon of a monster AlWAYS flips it up.
The FLIP of a monster is NOT ALWAYS it's flip summon.
Kinda like:
A Square (which needs 4 right angles and 4 equal sides) will ALWAYS be a rectangle (which only requires 4 angles)
But a Rectangle is not ALWAYS a Square.
__
|_| = Square AND Rectangle
____
|___| = ONLY a Rectangle
The reason a the FLIP o a monster is not always it's flip summon is because a flip summon cna trigger so many things, such as trap hole, Torrential Tribute, Solemn Judgmet, Horn of Heaven, etc.
But, a Flip of a monster, doesn't.
So if you have your Trap Hole set (and I know it) and only 1000 LP and I have a set Giant Germ.
If I FLIP-SUMMON Giant Germ, you'll be able to activate TRap HOle to destroy him.
However, if I use Book of Taiyou to FLIP it face-0up by an effect, Trap Hole will not be able to be activated.
Oh and Light of Intervention won't flip monsters on the field face-up, just prevent monsters from being placed on the field in face-down position.
