Okay, I use to use this 3 X Relinquished deck. Then I realized that I was using it wrong, or at least I think. Answer me this
1. I summon Relinquished in main phase 1
2. Equip it with opos tribe infecting virus
3. battle phase, atk opos blue eyes
4. Tribe infecting destroyed instead of relinquished, opo takes 1400DMG
5. Main Phase 2 equip blue eyes to relinquished
This is the way I was Using Relinquished, but I think that youre not allowed to do that.
This monster can take on the ATK and DEF of 1 opponent's monster on the field (a face down monster results in an ATK and DEF of 0). Treat the selected monster as an Equip Spell Card and use it to equip 'Relinquished'. You may use this effect only once per turn and can equip 'Relinquished' with only 1 monster at a time. When your opponent's monster attacks this monster with an ATK higher than 'Relinquished', the equipped monster is destroyed instead of 'Relinquished'. Any Life Point damage you receive from the attacking monster when 'Relinquished' is equipped is also inflicted on your opponent.
It says "When your opponent's monster attacks this monster with an ATK higher "
I think this implies that what I listed above doesnt actually work. Heres what upperdeck says:
You can not voluntarily destroy a monster equipped to "Relinquished" but you can use "Mystical Space Typhoon" or "Emergency Provisions" to eliminate it.
"Relinquished" will only inflict its effect damage to your opponent if "Relinquished" would be destroyed as a result of battle and the equipped Monster Card is destroyed instead. When this occurs you inflict damage to your opponent equal to the Battle Damage that the controller of "Relinquished" received; this is the ONLY time "Relinquished" will deal effect damage. (If "Relinquished", equipped with a 1800 ATK monster, attack a 3000 DEF Defense Position monster, "Relinquished’s" controller takes 1200 damage but "Relinquished" does not inflict effect damage to the opponent.)
those two phrases seem to contradict eachother. On one hand, it says you cannot volintarilly destroy the equiped monster, yet on the other hand, it says the effect activates when relinquished would be destroyed as a result of battle. There is no specification about the example I had provided above.

Please, if your smarter than me help me out.
You used it wrong in your steps posted above.
You are only allowed to use Relinquished's effect ONCE per turn during your main phase 1 or 2. Since you already equipped it with Tribe-Infecting Virus, you COULD NOT have taken their Blue-Eyes because Relinquished had already used its effect for the turn.
Also, do not forget that if the ATK of the monster is higher than Relinquished's ATK while it is equipped, BOTH you AND the opponent take the battle damage difference from your Lifepoints, not just the opponent.
When it says you cannot voluntarily destroy the equipped monster that is equipped to Relinquished, it means that, let's say you already have a monster equipped with 1800 ATK and the opponent now has a monster with 3200 ATK. You cannot just declare that you are getting rid of the monster just so you can use Relinquished's effect on the 3200 ATK monster. You will have to destroy it or send it to the graveyard through another card effect like Mystical Space Typhoon or Emergency Provisions or Giant Trunade or something.
Relinquished's effect also only applies when it would usually be destroyed as a result of battle. Attacking a DEF position monster with a higher DEF than the ATK of Relinquished WILL NOT destroy it in battle unless the opponent were to use a card like Destruction Punch or if the card had an effect that destroyed it like Thousand Needle. If that happened, then Relinquished's effect would work and both you and the opponent would take the battle damage difference, but Relinquished will remain.
There's also one other thing you should be aware of. If you Equip your "Relinquished" with "Tribe-Infecting Virus" and attack your opponent's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", only you will take 1400 damage. As you wrote in your post when quoting "Relinquished's" effect:
"Any Life Point damage you receive from the attacking monster when 'Relinquished' is equipped is also inflicted on your opponent."
Note that it specifically states that the effect damage is dealt when your opponent attacks you, and not the other way around. That's just something else that you should be aware of.
You know SetoKaiba, THats what I thought. But the following from upperdecks site has me confused.
See, the card is ALLMOST specific, when it says opos attacking monster. Well not allmost, it IS specific. But above it states that the efect only applies when it would usually be destroyed as a result of battle, it doesnt specify who needs to attack for that to apply. If anybody could provide a link or a quote from another website that is more specific it would be appreciated.
Relinquished
(Spell Ruler, Starter Deck Pegasus, Dark Beginning 1)
Select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field and equip it to this card (this effect can only be used once per turn and you can only equip 1 monster at a time to this card). The ATK and DEF of this card become the same amounts as the monster equipped to this card. If this card is destroyed as a result of battle, the equipped monster is destroyed instead, and any battle damage you received from the battle is also inflicted to your opponent's Life Points.
"Relinquished's" effect that causes your opponent to receive Effect Damage works at anytime "Relinquished" would be destroyed as a result of battle while it is equipped. This means your equipped "Relinquished" can attack and still have that part of its effect work.
You know, its funny, ever since i bought my first cards, which was a pegasus starter deck BTW, and I read relinquished, I thought there was an error in tis printing. I'm just happy theres now proof. Thanks Dood, That really helps!!
