I recently went to both of my local comic book shops and decided to pick up some copies of JSA to read, as a test. I'm a huge Dr. Fate fan, and figured that this would be a good way to get more material that includes him.

As I was looking through the bins, at one shop, I saw a copy of JSA #1 for $15.00. I thought, not bad, maybe it will be someting to pick up later, if I liked what I read.

Anyway, I picked up two issues of the current Prince of Darkness story arc, and went to the other shop to see if I could get the rest of the books.

While I was there, I saw another issue of number 1 for only $2.50

So I picked it up. It's in NM/M condition, and at worst I picked up some more reading material, and at best, I scored pretty good.

So now the question is:

Is the current series (which is currently running the Prince of Darkness stroy fron #46-#51) a part of this #1? The issue was printed in 1999. It has the same JSA emblem as the current one (only it's located at the bottom it has Alan Scott, Starman,Wildcat,Flash, and some others running on top of the world.

Or is the $2.50 ish I have a reprint of the $15.00 is I first saw? I looked inside the cover, and their were no indications that it was.

The cover you describe is the #1 issue of the current run. I'm not aware that it was re-printed at any time (but can't definitively say it wasn't). I'd say $15.00 would be too high anyway, but $2.50 is definitely a steal. Go for it!

I believe they did do a second printing of that. Look in all the small type mumbo-jumbo on the title page. It should say second printing somewhere. Barring that check the book carefully for damage or misprinting inside.

For $15 you could buy the any of the trade paperbacks that reprint like 7-8 issues. There are at least 4 available for JSA.

Well, checked it over and looked at every possible referance material that I could find-it apppears that the Issue of JSA #1 is in fact a legit number one and not a reprint!

In referance to $15.00 being too high-that is what this month's Wizard lists it at, and that appears to be what the shop sells their back issues for......
