Of all the cards in a player’s deck, spell cards often see the most action. Even though duelists play spells all the time, many players are confused about how each type of spell works.
This week’s article is a refresher course on the mechanics of spell cards.
Normal Spell Cards
Normal spell cards are the most commonly played spells. They’re usually a one-shot deal. You can activate a normal spell card during a main phase of your turn by:
Playing it face up from your hand to your spell and trap zone.
Setting it face down in your spell and trap zone and then flipping it face up.
Normal spell cards are destroyed after their effects are resolved. They don’t remain on the field. If a normal spell card’s effect is part of a chain, the card doesn’t go to the graveyard until the chain resolves.
"A card like Ring of Magnetism can only be equipped to a monster on your opponent’s side of the field. Be sure to read equip spell cards carefully to find out what they can target."
Someone needs to follow his own advice! Good article either way. And as far as spells go, it depends who I'm talking to. Once I had a problem because my card negated magic cards. He proclaimed "I played a Spell" So I watch my tongue.

ha ha! You caught that too. It made me chuckle. Can they edit these just like we can edit our posts?
it had something to do with Magic the Gathering. i guess they aren't allowed to use the word magic for any of their titles now, so magic ruler has been changed to spell ruler even though they didn't reprint the set, just like magic cards turned to spell cards. They are still the exact same thing and any card that says magic effects spells, and any card that says spell also effects magics.

did you guys notice the mess up on the new snatch steal? people are thinking they can equip it to FD monsters.
If people can not understand equips can only be used on Face up cards, then something is seriously wrong with them. I mean it has been like that since the game first came here hasn't it?[/rhetorical question]
While the earlier rulebooks left a window for it to be "possible" to equip a face-down card, it has never been legal in gameplay. (They used an odd wording)
The newer version rulebooks make it quite clear that Equip Cards are to be equipped to face-up monsters.
Cyberdon: DQ'ed for arguing? Do you mean a Game Loss or were you actually removed from the event? Did the disagreement become confrontational?
So? I took the test online when it first came out way back when. I have not done anything like that.. Perhaps give a little more to the story other then what you have given..
