Discard does not equal Destroyed. He must be destroyed and sent to the GY
SO he will not activate when removed from play.
He will not activate when sent or Discarded to the GY.
Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Effect Monster (Winged Beast / FIRE / 8 Stars / ATK 2400 / DEF 1600)
If this card is destroyed by a card effect, Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase. If you Special Summon this card successfully in this way, destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.
What about when The Sacred Phoenix is destroyed by an opponent's Delinquent Duo? will it's effect of comming back during the standby phase be activated weather your opponent picks it as the target to discard or you choose to discard it? , Delinquent Duo clearly states "Pay 1000 Life Points. Randomly select and DISCARD 1 card from your opponent's hand. Your opponent then selects and DISCARDS another card from his/her hand".
Another thing I was wondering was about Drop Off's effect being used to discard a Sacred Phoenix. The phoenix's effect of comming back in the Standby Phase clearly works , but why if "Drop Off" states "This card can only be activated during your opponents Draw Phase. Your opponent must DISCARD the card he/she draws to the Graveyard from their hand immediately" so in other words it's not destroyed it's DISCARDED isn't it?
Delinquent Duo does not Destroy cards in the hand, it only sends them to the graveyard. So no, Phoenix would not come back. The same is true if Drop Off was used. The reason is because of the ery words you Capitalized, the DISCARD is the key words. A discarded card is not considered destroyed unless something on the card says to Destroy and discard.
sooooooooooorta off topic here but....still a phoenix Q :D
i believe if phoenix is revived via CotH, then CotH is destroyed by a storm or MST, phoenix's effect is triggered....
i'm wondering why this isn't the case with V-lord(at least that's what i thought)???
their card text is essentially the same...
" Also, when this card is [destroyed] and sent to your Graveyard by your opponent's [card effect], it is Special Summoned to the field during your next Standby Phase."
"If this card is [destroyed] by a [card effect], Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase"
does the sent to the GY have something to do with it?
First place the text is similar but different. For Vampire lord the monster must be destroyed under the owners control by a card effect controlled by your opponent. So I Snatch Steal your Vampire lord and Ring It, it will not come back. If you Use Call of the Haunted on Vampire lord and later in the Turn I use Dust Tornado on Call of the Haunted, Vampire Shall not return because he was destroyed by Call of the Haunted, which is your Card effect, not mine.

Vampire Lord
Effect Monster (Zombie / DARK / 5 Stars / ATK 2000 / DEF 1500)
Each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, declare 1 card type (Monster, Spell, or Trap). Your opponent selects 1 card of that type from his/her Deck and sends it to the Graveyard. Also, if this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by your opponent's card effect, it is Special Summoned to the field during your next Standby Phase.
Some Rulings for Vampire Lord
Your "Vampire Lord" will only be Special Summoned by his own effect when destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by a card effect that your opponent controls, not by your own card effects or as a result of battle.
"Vampire Lord" will only return to play with his effect when the owner controls it, because "Vampire Lord" must be "destroyed and sent to YOUR Graveyard". When your opponent takes control of your "Vampire Lord", and it inflicts Battle Damage to your Life Points, then the first effect of "Vampire Lord" is activated. But the second effect will not be activated if "Vampire Lord" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard while your opponent controls him.
You can keep Special Summoning "Vampire Lord" as long as each time he is destroyed by your opponent's card effect.
When you have your "Vampire Lord" in play, Special Summoned by your "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted", and your opponent destroys "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" with "Mystical Space Typhoon", the "Vampire Lord" won't be Special Summoned because it was destroyed by your card effect, not by your opponent's. If your opponent controls your "Vampire Lord" with "Autonomous Action Unit", and "Autonomous Action Unit" is destroyed, "Vampire Lord" won't be Special Summoned because the owner did not control him.
Let’s Review
I change of Heart your Vampire Lord and I ring him while under my Control He does not come back
I MST the Call of the Haunted/Premature Burial that brought him back, He does NOT come back as he was destroyed by Call of the Haunted/Premature not by an opponents Card effect.
I play Card Destruction, he Will not come back as He was DISCARDED, not DESTORYED. DISCARD DOES NOT EQUAL DESTOREYD.
In addition, if you don’t take my word for it…

Need to clarify this because many have seen this on the FAQ:
In what way can a Vampire Lord be "destroyed" from the hand?
More specifically, do discarding effects destroy (card destruction, confiscation,
Zaloog, etc.) cards?
I was under the impression, that these cards sent cards to the grave, and thus was
more like the CED/VL situation.
Can you clarify? If my impression was correct, could you clarify better on the
FAQ?
Answer:
"Chain Destruction" is typically the only manner by which a Monster Card is
destroyed while in a player's hand.
"Discard" does not equal "destroy."

It only has to be destroyed by a Card Effect. That’s it.
It doesn’t Matter whose field she is on. It doesn’t Matter who Controls it, It doesn’t Matter if it was Call of the Haunted that destroyed it. ALL That matters that it was destroyed by a CARD EFFECT AND ENDS UP IN THE GRAVEYARD. Simple.
Lets Review Phoenix
I Change of Heart Phoenix and I Use Ring of Destruction you get the effect.
You Summon Phoenix and then Respond with Torrential Tribute…She gets the effect.
You bring back Phoenix with Premature or Call of the Haunted and Call of the Haunted or Premature is destroyed. You get Phoenix’s effect.
I use Bottomless Trap hole or Dark Core On Phoenix…You do not get the effect as it will not return from Out of Play.
Here are some rulings that should apply to what you asked...
If "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" is Special Summoned with "Call of the Haunted" or "Premature Burial", and that card is destroyed and destroys "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" with its effect, you Special Summon "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" during your next Standby Phase because it was destroyed by a card effect.
If your opponent controls your "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys", and it is destroyed by a card effect, because the effect activates in the Graveyard, it is the owner that gets the effect and Special Summons "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" during their Standby Phase.
If "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" is destroyed and removed from play, such as with "Bottomless Trap Hole", it is not Special Summoned from out of play during the Standby Phase, because this effect activates in the Graveyard.

" Also, when this card is [destroyed] and sent to your Graveyard by your opponent's [card effect], it is Special Summoned to the field during your next Standby Phase."
"If this card is [destroyed] by a [card effect], Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase"
If Call of the Haunted is destroyed, it is the effect of CotH that destroys Phoenix/V-lord.
V-lord is destroyed by the effect of one of your own cards, so it doesn't come back.
The Phoenix is destroyed by a card effect (even when it's your own card) so it does come back.
