Spell Canceller. It's an Ultra for a reason dammit.
As a fan of Machines, I can't really sit by and idly watch one of my favorite Machines take so much abuse. The one and only Spell Canceller.
Spell Canceller
*****
Wind
Machine/Effect
Ultra Rare
MFC-020
1800/1600
Effect:As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all Magic Cards cannot be activated. The Effects of all face-up Magic cards are also negated.
Pros:
Negates Magic
Basically a free Imperial Order with a body
Cons:
Weak stats
I personally love this card. When in doubt, everyone turns to their Magic cards to pull their ### out of the fire. This card halts most game turning cards (Note: Most, not all).
The biggest problem is obviously its stats. 1800 isn't going to kill much, and 1600 stops even less. Especially for a 5 star monster, it's stats are piss poor at best. With so much emphasis on the stats and how it can stay alive, it doesn't do as well as it should anymore.
It generally shrinks in comparison to its counterpart Jinzo. Which is a beatstick and generally wins games. But what Jinzo can't do is Lock a game down. That generally doesn't matter as Jinzo wins games.
However, it's effect is it's saving grace. Back in Traditional, people relied so much on their Magic cards, Imperial Order became a staple just for the pure reason of a free Magic Jammer. Now this card came along .... and everyone ignored it. One of the first Ultras I pulled out of MFC, I sought a way to utilize a deck around it and failed. Until recently, I finally found a way to utilize Magic Lockdown, thanks to a friend of mine, l0k13.
Magics naturally play a huge roll in the game. When you aren't relying on Magic cards, you have to obviously have a good reason. Here's mine. I play enough stall and Traps so that I don't really care. So as a result, with the help of l0k13, I constructed this deck to utilize Magic Lockdown.

Anti-Spell Fragrance on opponents turn. Opponent sets 4 Magic cards down. Drop Spell Canceller. Magic Lockdown.
Obviously, it's a burn. It needs tweaking, but you know what, I accomplished what I set out to do. To say screw Magic cards (outside of Pot, which must be played in any deck), long live Trap Cards.
Basically I'm saying this. Yes most Ultras these days aren't very good, but if you can utilize it properly, it becomes your bomb.
Aramaki, I love this post. I have run a similar (well very different card wise, but also a burn) deck with Spell Canceller in it, and yes he can win you games. Like you have pointed out, Spells account for quite a bit of an opponents deck, so a monster like this can flat out destroy their options. Because of his weak stats, Canceller is ideal in a deck that can protect him. I noticed you run 3 Solemn Judgments, mine does as well, to take care of that jerk, Jinzo. Also Anti-Spell Fragrance is great, especially for this deck. I do not run Curse of Darkness, but I see how it could help your deck tremendously. Overall, great deck to maximize Cancellers effect.
Yes, I came to the realization that not all cards are as bad as they are played. I give cards like Canceller a chance to shine, even if it's not that effective, I still am willing to make any card semi-playable. That is what I have been doing in my forum hopping days.
It doesn't matter. It just adds to the skill that is required to play Spell Canceller effectively. This isn't a card you can throw into any random deck (Berserk Gorilla), but rather a card that requires a precisely timed drop to kill hope and strategies.
My only question is how consistent the deck is? Also how fast, since most decks these days are raw speed it can be really bad if you get a crap hand as your opener.
The deck itself isn't that fast, as it is designed to drag the game down to insanely slow. As a result, the opening hand is important, so long as I'm able to stall with what I have, but it's not as important as say....FTK.
What I mean is how long does it take to set the deck up? If it takes more than two turns on average, even with an excellent hand, you're deck ends up being far to slow. I have a few suggestions but would want to see the deck in action before I voice them.
This deck works. Simple as that. Opening hand doesn't really matter. On average it takes him around 2 turns to have the whole set up and he usually wins too. Don't bother saying a proper side deck will beat it either. He has too much stuff that can take those cards out (Lava Golem, Solemn Judgment, Spell Canceller).
I wasn't asking the questions to mock, I was asking them so I could figure out the average time table of the deck. Only thing that I'd change is just switching Cylinders out for another fragrance or judgement, but that's just me.
I don't run this exact deck, but the one I use with some similar cards takes 1-3 turns on average to set up. There are bad hands here and there, but 3 Nightmare Wheels means even if no G Bind is drawn on the first turn, their is a chance for a partial lock until one comes up. I also don't run Cylinder--- to be honest other than a bad hand an opponent does not get to attack anyway unless they draw a quick Heavy Storm. However, if they run a few little guys that can slip under some of the traps, I can see how Cylinder would be good to have around.
Also consider Fake Trap! That card can help if you get a Heavy Storm when all you have is Seven Tools, or a Raigeki Break when you just have Judgment of Anubis set. It's just a suggestion, but it works for me. Also Curse of Royal is great at least for a side deck if you are having trouble protecting your traps.
