The figures are still adjacent because they are in squares next to eachother. It doesnt matter that there are two barriers there. The rule you aare thinking of only applies when you need to draw LOF which you dont if you are adfacent to someone.
Check the glossary definition of adjacent squares---they are not adjacent if on opposite sides of blocking terrain. And really, that's to be expected. Would you want figures separated by a wall to be capable of close combat against each other?
These characters are not adjacent. If a barrier is erected in two squares diagonal and adjacent to each other, it is implied that a solid wall is erected on the diagonal between these two squares. Close combat attacks, ranged attacks, and any other action that requires the juxtaposition of two characters cannot be carried out if the two characters are separated by the diagonal line connecting two adjacent squares of blocking terrain.
