I think Torrential Should go not vortex.Because vortex u are giving away 2 cards for lyk a few and Torrential clears the field and it is better than vortex and its a trap.Say ur opponent summons a heavy hitter. You just flip Torrential and its gone. But if u use lightning in that case then he gets and attack and that aint good lol hope that helps
I would say use both if possible...they're both good in certain situations. Torrential Tribute is good if your opponent has more monsters than you and you need to clear the field. But on the other hand, Vortex is better sometimes since you don't have to wait for a trigger (a summon) like Torrential. Try both and see how it works out,
- Lightning Vortex takes out everything only on your oponent's side while torrential
hits both sides.
- Lightning Vortex only costs one card from your hand which can be very useful in
the case of phoenix and other combos.
- The biggest problem, I think, would probably be top decking it.
- FOr TOrrential you have to wait for someone to summon.
Well thats through my experience of using torrential compared to LIghtning Vortex.
Lightning Vortex is a poor execuse for a Raigeki replacement. Torrential Tribute however is perfect in almost every way, and it has stood the test of time. At least 2 were maindecked in every deck at last year's Nationals.

I think LV is better than torrent. The only time torrent is good is if you're in a REALLY bad spot and your opponent has too many monsters, and u need to get rid of everything. I didn't even have 1 til SD2 came out (i have bad luck with packs...) and though I do run, I've been considering taking it out. It rather goes against my field control strategy and is a dead draw if i'm controlling the field other than them having like, a spirit reaper i can't kill.
LV does not only destroy attack position monsters it destroys all face up monsters.
If I had to pick torrential I feel is a bettrer card but in my opinion there is no reason not to run both with mirror force too oc course, any mass removal is a good thing

How does a card that was created to control the field conflict with your strategy which is ultimately to control the field? Your logic doesn't make any sense to me.
Well, use whatever you will. I've never had any problems with Torrential Tribute, however, I wouldn't even to begin to think about using Lightning Vortex. As soon as I saw the card, I immedately went to go wash out my eyes.
Torrential, definately for me. I didnt like it for a while, until I noticed, we dont have much monster removal, and since this is a field-nuking dark hole, I give it the thumbs up. It blows everything away. :) Lightning Vortex misses one thing; importantly, face-down monsters. Not to mention its cost of discarding something. Lets also keep in mind, your not always going to have sinister to toss around.
Thank you,
Azurai Aeon
I would have to say TT also. After playing this game for some time, going to major tournys and regionals, your opponent will have no more than 1 sometimes two monsters on the field, and in those cases you should be able to handle at least one of them.
TT clears the Field, face down/face up in ATT position or Def.
I used Vortex early on but found out that a simple Smashing Ground did the same for me.
Now Vortex is great for trading to kids who want that extra "shiny" card in their decks ;)
Both have their strong points. Torrential is a trap, so your opponent never sees it coming. It clears the entire field, and you can even trigger it yourself. You can also combo it with Sangan or Sinister to gain something from it. On the other hand, Vortex is an excellent field clearer when your oppponent is sending big monsters against you and you have no other way out. Also, the discard isn't too bad, you can drop a big monster to revive later, Chaos/Anything like that food, or Night Assailant/Sinister Serpent.
Both have their strong points, both have their weak ones, and both replace older cards (Raigeki and Dark Hole). I suggest using both, but for people who can't get good cards easy, Torrential is an SD common, so use that.
