Hi, everyone.
Recently had this idea of making realms very own Weekly Card Discussion, where each week one card will be looked at and you can post your opinions about that card like is it overrated, underrated or just plain crap. After you post if you have a card you want everyone to review ask and if everyone likes it I will post it on the The Weekly Card Discussion. Hope you like the idea.
Since we have no base to start on I thought we might start on card IMO is very good but see like play.
Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Winged Beast/Effect FIRE 8
2400/1600
If this card is destroyed by a card effect, Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase. If you Special Summon this card successfully in this way, destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.
At 8 stars it might seem hard to summon but with the right cards it can be brought out more easily. Cards like Hand of Nephthys and the the less popular Flame Ruler, also a the effect can contribute to it popularity with it almost immune to to everything but attacks and a heavy storm effect, why didn't we see much play in SJCs and Nationals with this card?
Hope I get to get a lot of people on this thing. So, if you have something to say about this card post no where else but here. :)
It's a good card but stopable by alot of main and side deck cards. I do like the fact that if you run 2 apprentis magician you can just add 1 Hand and 1 Pheonix to you Chaos Goat Control deck. But like vampire lord it has been lossing fame. It's a good card but not game breaking. Most quickplays are chainable and Torential can stop it for one more turn till you remove it with many of the removal options availiable in main and side decks.
I like it but there isn't a whole ton of useable combos.
Well I can take a guess in this, from MY point of view nevertheless, i'm not fond of SPoN myself.......... altough I do admint it is a very powerful card noless, but there are lots of drawbacks and a lot of point towards the card as well:
PROS:
- Nice little effect, recursive trap/spell removing effect.
- Easily summoned if you get Hand of Nephtys out in the first couple of turns, and being it is a Special Summon it makes it even easier with Goats and stuff, excellent little bid for a SS.
- Practically a waste for your opponents traps/spell/monster effects, so it blocks great part of your opponents options.
- Nice enough to combo with cards like Level Convertion Lab.
CONS:
- Not that good stats for a lvl 8 monster 2400/1600, its quite easy to get rid of.
- BTHoled will leave you with a HUGE disadvantage.
- Recursive effect might kill you as well.
- If you somehow summon it to the field without HoN, then HoN becomes a burden incredibly BAD, BAD topdeck.
- It's power relies on the fact it has to hit the graveyard by an effect so it can continue doing damage, bouncing it back to the hand or deck, can be devastating.
So i'd say that taking in consideration there are more cons than pros, it might not be all that it's caught up to be............
Sacred Phoenix of Nephtys, I'm afraid, went the way of Horus and the Creator as the once hyped cards of a booster set that everyone had to get. Then some realized that it is really just a very expensive monster card with an effect, just like The Creator and Horus lv 8. Granted, it's a very good card with a good effect, but I could also run a Gigantes and have it killed in battle and get the same effect, or run Heavy Storm (which most do). I can get it's effect through other means, though not continuously, because how many times will Phoenix use his spell/trap clearing effect before it's gone via Bottomless Trap Hole, Snatch Stolen/Metamorphosised, Book of Mooned/NoC, or just plain killed in battle?
What attracts me to Phoenix is the immunity to monster-destroying card effects. And the ability to be speical summoned from the hand or deck (which the Creator doesn't have) while not being a Nomi monster (which Horus lv 8 is) just adds to its skills. But Kaiser Glider, the supposed Jinzo killer can now be considered a Jinix (Jinzo and Phoenix combined) killer, in addition to any of the Monarchs, or Jinzo itself. A Noob playing Summoned Skull can beat this. And Phoenix has to be destroyed, so I can't Metamorph this into a Gatling Dragon (better ATK + monster clearing) and get it back. But at least it can make use of some cards otherwise not seen in other decks, such as Assult on GHQ or Destruction Ring, and it's good for trade bait.
