Judging from the overwhelming response I got to this deck, people must really not like it at all.
Does anyone out there have an other ideas for control cards to put into this deck? I don't want to run any hand control with the amount of Dark World monsters that are floating around out there, but general field control I am all about.
Is there anyone out there that thinks this deck is worth the time and effort? I personally do. It's been fun to play so far and I think it can be competitive, but that just one man's opinion.
Beautiful! The only thing that will actually stop you is those freakin' D.D. Assailants! If only Forceful wasn't banned, you'd be all set bec... wait a minute. Trap Dustshoot might be good to deal with them!!!A little TsukuMask action a la Rosenberg might be ideal! T.A.D.P.O.L.E.? I like Thunder Dragons, but *meh*
D.D. Assailants are the main thing I'm worried about. I've been thinking about main decking one D.D. Survivor to deal with them, but I'm trying to see if I can come up with something else to use as tech to deal with D.D. Assailants.
I've actually been looking at Mirror Wall. Man do I wish Shrink was out, it would be perfect in this deck. Mirror Wall is a pretty good substitute. I want to get another Winged Sage Falcos into this deck, but I'm not sure what to take out yet. Any ideas?
Oh wow Tsukuyomi might be a really good idea for this deck. I'm not sure if I'd want to go all out and add Mask of Darkness or not to go for the complete lock. It's an interesting thought though, I'll have to give it some consideration.
T.A.D.P.O.L.E. and Thunder Dragon were the two things that came to mind to help out with the discard costs. I'm not sure if I particularly like either idea right now.
Steamroid is something I'm testing out as a way to take down Cyber Dragon. I haven't had a chance to really play test them against Cyber Dragons yet, so I'm not sure how well it will work.
I'm not sure if I want to main deck D.D. Survivor or just add a pair of them to my side deck. That's something I'm going to have to give more thought to. Hmmm, I think these sleeves are the same as those for my Dark World Deck, so I might be able to use a lot of the same side deck. Interesting.
I'll definately give D.D. Survivor some more thought.
I really like Nobleman of Extermination in this deck. I know they can still chain to it, but these days with the number of Sakuertsu Armor and Bottomless Trap Holes that are running around there's a good chance you'll hit something that your opponent doesn't want to lose and runs multiples of.
The Water Art I'm not that big on with the rise of the Dark World monsters. Discarding from your opponent's hand can get really costly really fast, which is why I'm trying out this whole spin idea.
Anyone else have any suggestions to help improve this deck?
So the current things I'm considering adding to the deck are a second copy of Winged Sage Falcos, 1 or 2 copies of Mirror Wall, and 1 copy of Mobius the Frost Monarch.
I like the idea of adding in a second Winged Sage Falcos since it fits the theme really well. It has a pretty reasonable attack so it can take down a lot of monsters that are commonly played. I'm just not sure what to take out for it right now. Maybe I'll have to move some things to the side deck.
Like I was saying before, Mirror Wall really interests me. If Shrink was out, I'd add two copies of it to this deck in a heart beat. However we don't have that yet, so the next best thing is Mirror Wall. I don't really want to go over 7 traps in this deck, so I'm not sure what I want to do here yet. I suppose I could take out one Time Seal to start with, though Time Seal seems pretty useful, I guess I'll have to weigh the pros and cons of both. Mirror Wall really combos too well with Winged Sage Falcos to ignore.
Mobius is the thing I'm not sure I need. Right now the deck does have a lot of Spell and Trap removal, however the two for one that Mobius can offer is hard to pass up. He'll be in my side deck no matter what, so now I just have to decide if it is worth main decking.
Anyone have any thoughts on any of these ideas, or any ideas of their own to add?
So I'm still trying to decide what to take out for two Mirror Walls and a second copy of Winged Sage Falcos. What I'm considering right now is taking out one copy of Time Seal and Torrential Tribute for the two Mirror Walls. Torrential could end up hurting me more than it would do me good. It's a thought right now, I'll have to consider it more. If I do take it out, the only thing I'll have to worry about hitting with Nobleman of Extermination is Call of the Haunted.
I've also been thinking about testing out Ancient Gear Beast. The reason I've been thinking of Ancient Gear Beast over Dark Ruler Ha Des is pretty simple. While they both have very similar effects and Dark Ruler has a 450 point attack advantage, it simply came down to the fact that Ancient Gear Beast has a 2000 defense, while Dark Ruler only clocks in at 1600. Who cares what it's defense is you ask? You'll never play it in defense. Well this is certainly true, but Ancient Gear Beast can stand up to Book of Moon and Enemy Controller a lot better than Dark Ruler can. If your opponent has D.D. Assailant and Book of Moon, they won't need to waste D.D. Assailant's effect to remove Dark Ruler from play. He can't be special summoned from the graveyard anyway, so why bother removing him from play when you can just Book of Moon him and attack? With Ancient Gear Beast the choice is not so simple. Plus you get to negate Legendary Jujitsu Master, Sangan, the Element searchers and plenty more.
I'm not sure if I want to take out a Mystical Knight of Jackal for him. I'll have to test out the deck more in this configuration before I can really decide if I can get away with running only one Jackal.
Anyone out there have any other ideas or inputs on these thoughts?
Alright, this deck is starting to run the way I want it to. The problems I've been running into are getting Mystical Knight of Jackals stuck in my hand, and the speed with which my hand can decrease. I'm changing my play style a bit now when I play this deck to better suit the theme of the deck. That's becoming a major help. I've also made a few changes to try and make the deck run better:
- 1 Mystical Knight of Jackal
- 2 Kaiser Sea Horse
- 1 Card Destruction
- 1 TIme Seal
- 1 Torrential Tribute
+1 Ancient Gear Beast
+1 Winged Sage Falcos
+1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
+1 Pot of Avarice
+2 Mirror Wall
I'm going to keep Mystical Knight of Jackal in the deck for the time being. It seems to be the "spin" method that I use the least, so it might not be needed. I'm thinking of trying out Zaborg or Mobius in this deck to try and gain more of an advantage.
So far I really like the addition of Mirror Wall and a second Winged Sage Flacos. I'm still up in the air about Mystical Knight of Jackal. He's great once you get him onto the field, but getting him onto the field isn't always easy. I'm going to keep him in here for the time being, but I'm definately thinking about the Mobius and Zaborg options that I mentioned before as alteratives to Mystical Knight of Jackal.
So what other cards out there can be abused in this deck? Like I was saying before I could try out Night Assailant, Slate Warrior and Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, but I'm not sure if I can clear out the kind of deck space to fit all these cards in. I'll consider any suggestion that you can send my way.
I've gone ahead and made some major changes to this deck. I think I was really forcing the "spin" (send an opponent's card to the top of their deck) aspect and ended up over emphasizing it. Aside from Winged Sage Falcos and Legendary Jujitsu Master, the Spell and Traps that can spin cards are all costly and involve discards.
What I've decided to do is strengthen the weakness of this deck, it’s loss of hand advantage, with the strengths of the Soul Control deck, gaining massive field advantage. Here's a look at the changes I made:
- 1 Mystical Knight of Jackal
- 1 Ancient Gear Beast
- 2 Steamroid
- 3 Hydrogeddon
- 1 Elemental Hero Wildheart
- 1 Twin-Headed Behemoth
- 1 Exiled Force
- 1 Drillroid
- 2 Back to Square One
+2 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch
+2 Mobius the Frost Monarch
+2 Goblin Elite Attack Force
+2 Spirit Reaper
+1 Magical Merchant
+1 D. D. Assailant
+1 Mystic Swordsman LV2
+2 Soul Exchange
I think the Monarchs and Soul Exchange should speak for themselves. Goblin Elite Attack Force is another way to deal with Cyber Dragon, I'm going to play test this, they may end up coming out. Spirit Reaper is used to hold down the field until I draw into a Monarch. Magical Merchant thins the deck out and digs for Soul Exchange, Brain Control or Snatch Steal. I'm keeping Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer in this deck because I feel it's good tech against Pot of Avarice.
I just put this build together right now, so I haven't had a chance to play test at all yet. Does anyone see any other things that can be done to make this deck better?
