Ok, this question is one my friend has been asking me to explain. Can Lava Golem be special summoned on the opponent's turn? Now I've already said that no, it cannot be, but I can't quite get the reasoning why clear enough. This question would also apply to the rest of the monsters that can be special summoned(i.e., Chaos sorcerer, fenrir, etc.). Thanks for the help.

No...it cannot...
Unless it is by the effect of a Normal/Continuous Trap, Quickplay Magic, Counter Trap effect, or by a monster like a FLIP: effect or something that SPECIFICALLY states you can, you can ONLY perform summons on your own turn...
Really...one of the reasons being pure logic...if you COULD do that sort of stuff...I'm pretty sure Chaos Sorcerer wouldn't be unrestricted or even unbanned if it were possible...same with Lava Golem and other monster's...
Thanks, Half. I was just rying to explain that to my friend and couldn't get the words out right. Thank you for the explanation. I personally figured that was the case, but needed clarification for my friend.
Effect
This monster must be Special Summoned on your opponent's side of the field by offering 2 monsters on your opponent's side of the field as a Tribute. This card inflicts 1000 points of damage to the Life Points of the card's controller during each of his/her Standby Phases. When you Special Summon this monster, you cannot Normal Summon or Set a monster during the same turn.
So no. On your turn. Like when you play a monster.
As mentioned many, many times with Toons and Lava Golem, yes, you CAN tribute Tokens because they're SPECIAL Summons, not Tribute Summons...
That would also be like tributing Hand of Nephhtys and a token that's there from activating Scapegoat, or tributing Fox Fire and Hand of Nephthys, etc etc ---- these are just a few examples here of Special Summoning a monster.
It's basically, almost, like comparing them to tributing things for costs...just like how you can tribute a Sheep Token for Metamorphosis...or how Horus LV6 can be sent to the Graveyard for Level Up! and such.
Hey, guys, thanks a lot. I really got the answer to my question on like the second post. I'm actually feeling kinda embarrased at how much attention this thread is getting. but please feel free to discuss things here. I did know about the tokens for special summoning, etc. Again, thanks Half for the clear explanation on the Lava Golem question. I use to love abusing Goat tokens for Tribute doll and metamorphosis.
its not needed, but as additional ammo for explaining why you can't summon those guys in the opponents turn, the only thing you can do during your opponents turn is activate speed 2/3 effects. special summoning conditions are not considered to be chainable effects, and therefore do not have a speed. so they don't fall into the catagory of a speed 2/3 effect.
March is "Can I do this on my opponent's turn" month.
The only cards that can be actuvated on an opponetn's turn are spell speed 2 or higher cards. Usualy, it will have a universal trigger (such as the summoning of a monster in "mysterious puppeteer", or being sent to the graveyard like "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World") or state on the card that it can be activated in any one phase, such as being activated in "the battle phase" sort of like "trap jammer".
Are you guys having fun on my thread? I like it. I actually learn more from reading what you guys have to say than some of the actual answers people give. Half, Agentmage, etc, thanks for all the help and enjoy the debates, I do.
