What would happen if you controlled your opponents monster with steal and they removed it from play with a chaos sorcerer? Who's removed from play zone does it go to? It usually wouldn't matter but if they play dimension fusion or something who would get it?
It would go to yours. The original card owenrs graveyard.Like say your opponent plays snatch steal on your Sangan, they tribute it for Thestalos The Fire Monarch or a tribute monster. You will get its effect because it was YOUR MONSTER.!!!!have you tried the rule book on this question.
JinzoTheKing, it won't go to any graveyard, because it was removed from play which is completely different. the rulebook doesn't cover this and personally i'm still not 100% satisfied with any answer to this question.
while saying it always goes to the owners removed pile makes a lot of sense for the same reasons cards always go to the owners hand/field/deck/graveyard unless otherwise stated, there are some rulings that suggest it might not work that way.
when i snatch steal your monster and it gets removed from play by IMT, at the end of the turn it returns to play under MY control and then returns to you. because it comes back under my control it would seem that it was in my removed pile and that control was "frozen" the way it was before being removed.
then again dd scout plane is ruled that when it returns itself from play that it ALWAYS returns on its owner's field regardless of who controlled it when it was removed. which implies that it always goes to the owners removed pile.
we could assume that maybe these "temporary removal" cards like IMT/dd gate/dimensionhole/etc. break the rules of whose removed pile they go to, but that doesn't seem to make sense.
the removed from play pile is just one of those weird things that didn't really make sense with mechanics when the game started, you just "removed cards from the game" which originally meant that the cards were gone, not part of the game anymore, you put them aside and forgot about them until the game was over. (which supports the idea that cards always go to the owners rfp pile)
but since then its evolved to the point where something that gets removed from the game is still a part of the game (probably why now its just removed from play and not from the game) cards that are removed can be retrieved, cards get removed temporarily for the purpose of returning later.
so basically its reached a point where it needs a set of mechanics to govern it but they really haven't given us any. normally we can figure out mechanics from the various rulings (essentially what we all did/are doing with priority) but none of the rulings actually state whose rfp pile any card goes to. so theres not much to go on.
and because of other cards that can be used to retrieve a removed card we really need to know if they are removed to the owners or controllers pile. because if i IMT a monster i took with snatch steal, normally it returns under my control then switches back to you, but what happens if i use miracle dig? does your monster go into my graveyard? does it go to your graveyard? or can i not target it with miracle dig because its not in my removed pile, and if so why does it even return originally under my control?
Obviously I can't tell you for sure, but here is my guess:
- Player A takes control of Player B's monster
- Player A activates "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" on Player B's monster
- The monster stays in Player B's Removed From Game (RFG) Area until the End Phase of the current turn, since he/she is the owner of the card. At the End Phase of the turn, the monster leaves Player B's RFG area and returns to Player A's side of the field, since that was the player who activated "Interdimensional Matter Transporter."
- Since there is now no effect in play that will allow Player A to maintain control of the monster, control of the monster switched back to Player B.
I believe that is how it works. Hopefully that helped to clear it up.
When a monster is only being removed from play by a temporary effect, such as with IMT, then it goes to the RFP for the player controlling the effect that removes the monster from play.
However, a perm effect of being removed from play, such as Chaos Sorcerer, would go to the owner of the card's RFP.
Think of it like this, a perminent or lasting effect sends the card back to the owner of the card in the appropriate pile (graveyard or removed from play). A temporary effect leaves it in the control of the person who was controlling the card at the time the effect activated. I believe this is do to the fact the effect is allowing the card to return to the field and then the other effects can finish resolving properly.
