I guess they're both good in their own way, in my eyes 1800 defence isn't really enough for my liking (for a defence monster anyway). Its effect is better than Big Sheild Guardna's, however I don't think it has the power behind it to generally put it to any good use. I use Big Shield in my deck hoping to get it first draw, because it's the best opening card you can get, espcially if you're going to just tribute it next turn, and even if I didn't have it first draw, it's good against single monsters, whereas if your opponents had more than one monster powerful enough withstand Big's guard down to about 100 damage or so, Mid Sheild in this case would be totally useless.
I'm leaning towards Mid Shield Guardna due to him not going to attack mode after he's attacked, but I love Big because of his high defensive power, and he makes a cool looking super-rare. Wow that was a noobish sentence of me.
i think big shield is way better, stronger defense, last will-able, rat-able, rota-able, un expected, and most people do not know that it goes to attack position believe it or not so they won't attack it.

Anyone who can read will know it switches to Attack Position and it's your obligation to tell them that as well...otherwise, it can be seen as cheating...
Mid Shield Gardna is also able to fit all those options minus the switching into Attack Position part...and 1800 is actually more than enough to stand up against the typically used non-tribute monsters minus a, maybe, teched Ohka...which is why it's used more...the 2600 DEF of Big Shield may be surprising for a second, but after it goes into Attack Position, it's easy pickings.
Before it got restricted, using Big Shield Gardna with Book of Moon was great fun. The opponent attacks Big Shield to turn it to attack mode, then attack again and you send it face-down. You can still do it, but its more difficult. Ready for Intercepting can do this too I suppose.
In, at least a Warrior or Warrior/Spellcaster Deck, Ready for Intercepting has been a great sub for Book of Moon. (it works especially well with Mysterious Guard too)

i prefer big shield personally, as it was stated earlier he is definitely the best opening play as even if they summon cyber dragon and then something else as it can withstand the initial attack from the cyber.
on another note there is a d-hero in the next set that is a four star 2700 def. the downside to him is that if he's face up during your opponents stand by phase they get to draw a card. i think he is a great option in a stall deck or one using shield and sword or weapon change.
Well soul_taker the only way that would work is if you had Ultimate Offering on your field since you can't summon Tsukuyomi on your opponent's turn otherwise. However, that would cause a replay and then your Tsukuyomi will probably pay the price.
You can wait until your own turn to use Tsuku with Big Shield, but that doesn't really save it from two straight attacks anyway...
