I want to hear your opinion on Gilasaurus. Now, just in case some people don't remember him...
Gilasaurus
Earth
3-Stars
1400 ATK/400 DEF
Effect:
You may treat the Normal Summon of this card as a Special Summon. If you
select Special Summon, your opponent may select a Monster Card from his/her Graveyard and Special Summon the monster to the field.
Specifically, i would like to hear if you would use him in a Dinosaur deck, and why.
He's a good card over all in any deck that relies on tributes. Problem is it can backfire, and your opponent can pull a card from his graveyard that will probably ruin your strategy. So it's best to be very careful when using this monster.
He is only useful in decks that really need to put free monsters on the field. This includes, but is not limited to: Certain tribute heavy decks, monster gate decks, certain OTK/FTK decks.
He would not be useful in stardard Aggro/Control decks like Dinos.
Yeah, i guess your right, but i have seen him used to great effect in a tribute heavy beatdown deck. I was often beat by that deck too, so i just think that he's an underrated card.
Now that i think of it, i don't think there is any room for him in a Dino deck anyway.
There are some new cards from CDIP that actually prevent the opponent from Special Summoning. It'd probably be good if you could win the game in that move. A good combo would be Gilasaur then sac him for Zaborg.
It's actually a bit useful in Gravekeeper Decks as well for getting out those Chief's that people don't use too often because of the Tribute and/or can't get Magician's Circle. Necrovalley preventing the opponent from Special Summoning.
Skill Drain use this card quite evily as well by allowing Gilasaurus to be Special Summoned, but not allowing the opponent to Special Summon.
In general, Gilasaurus is mostly about timing and/or how it is used when you bring it out. Obviously, you won't be using its effect if the opponent has some big monster in their Graveyard...not unless you use it to bring out a bigger monster. Of course, if they only have something like a Magician of Faith, it shouldn't be too big a problem.
Wouldn't it be great to special summon two of them, and then turn around and sac them both for Ultimate Tyranno?.......the look on your opponents face would be priceless, lol.
He's perfect for Dino decks. Especially with the big tributes that have the awesome effects. He just has to be used correctly, or in a manner which the special summon doesn't even matter.
Unfortunately, it's a bit late for Gilasaurus, even in a Dinosaur Deck since they have these other methods of bringing them out already...Grand Evolution Pill...Hunting Instinct...Miracle Jurassic Egg...etc...Gilasaurus just seems to be a little unnecessary now.
Not really Hydrogeddon (to me anyways, given it's usually better by itself as a swarming attacker...Tributing being a back-up).
Gilasaurus is good in a Skill Drain Deck, but there's not too many Tribute monsters that would benefit from it. It's usually used as a free Special Summon. Sort of like a slightly better Fusilier Dragon (except allows Normal Summons still).
It's very fun, but hand-costly, to be able to Special Summon 1-3 Gilasaurus followed by a Normal Summon of Fusilier Dragon without Tributes for a nice field totalling 7000 ATK (directly anyways).
