I know some of you are more then happy that the sety comes out soon, but being a number of players still have to wait for DM to pick up our decks havent got the play time they deserve and already they must change.
What is this anyway 3 sets in a year? 2 is good enough in my opinion
the reason we want the new set so bad is because thats what keeps the game fresh. i mean theres only i think around 120 cards right now to pool from. most deck types have already been tested. and like it was said it isnt that hard to update decks with only 60 card blocks. also the bigger the card pool the more challenging it becomes to think up of strategies and that brings more depth into the game for me at least.

Actually, it's 4 sets in a year, but most players want more sets rather than less, we only get 120 cards/set for the first set of the year and 60 cards/set for the other 3 sets. That's only 300 cards a year (excluding promos). Also, building decks from a small card pool can be very unchallenging, right now, most decks (in their own civilizations) are pretty much the same.
Agrees, but I think that WoTC needs to make DM larger, in a sense. More complexity, and definitely MORE CARDS PER EXPANSION.
It's mimicking Yu-Gi-Oh with these weak 60 card expansions.
weak expansions? I dont think so, each expansion is giving us another HUGE concept and way to look at the game. I mean Evo sped up the game a lot with its evolution creatures. It also gave use and power to mono decks with stronger easier to get creatures.
With YGO, there were no 60 card sets, they were all in the 100's range, where you living? Japan? thats where the sets are 50-60 cards, not here. I personally like the way they are taking there time iwth the sets, it gives new players a lot of time to join into the game while its still relatively new and not get overrun by decsk with 3-4 set builds in them, but this 4 month delay has left quite a bit to be desired. Also if you look at it form the collectors point of view, its better.
the problem is there aren't enough cards per set to generate enough new ideas. larger sets would be better. 100 per set would be good. Also different formats would also keep the game from getting dull as you wuold have to try harder to build decks with restrictions.
3 months is standard waiting time for expansion releases. Sometimes that is too long to wait. LOL. And 3 months is plenty of time to get to know the cards because the expansion sets are only 60 cards (base is 120).
60 card sets are enough to generate new idea for decks within a 3 month span. Here's why: New ideas do not have to be good ideas. LMAO. You can, afterall, keep making decks from bad ideas. Hehe.
To be realistic, having larger sets does mean that there are more cards to work with for deck making/collecting, and that's usually beneficial to players. But having more cards in a set does not necessarily mean a greater variety of decks will be made. When new sets come out, there is a period of time where players figure out the best cards to use in a deck. After people determine what's the cream of the crop, that's when you start seeing the same decks over an over. Albiet, this happens a lot sooner with smaller sets, but it will happen eventually no matter the set size. Especially if people look at set spoilers.
I do say that normally I would like more cards in a set. But, not at the expense of having a bunch of junk cards released in the set. The way DM sets on looking on the JP side, combining sets ala YGO would have some drawbacks. Introducing a bunch of new concepts at one time would render too many cards useless too quickly. If Rampage had been combined with Crush, would cards like Burst Shot really be played considering the new trigger spells Arrow and the one that's an upgraded Tornado Flame?
YGO's having 100 or more cards makes little difference with how soon the sets becomes stale. That's because YGO's big sets have tons of junk in them. Deck types change little as cards are merely subbed into exisiting decks. Rarely does that game see wholly different decks run in tournies (also due to the game's high number of broken cards). That's because the cards that do come out for most new deck types (like the Huge Revoltution deck) really can't compete with the current top tier deck card selections. And when it does happen, it's great. Kinda how the power behind the Gravekeeper's deck was made evident post-Invasion of Chaos, and how Kycoo/Maha Valio are being maindecked in the YGO tourney scene now.
YGO's Soul of the Duelist set, the one that gets released same time for JP and English, is going be something to watch. I am very curious on the direction the game will take with the new mechanics UDE is set to introduce--whether or not new mechanics will go unused like some of the weak deck concepts the game already has--think archfiends and alternative win decks. I think the real problem with YGO is new sets (even for their huge card counts) do not dramatically shift the environment unless there are bans and restrictions. Coupled with broken cards that have weak or no counters, you get a game dominated by slight variations of the same old decks. In DM new sets introduce cards that swift the environment dramatically. Base set 3 or more civ decks won tons of tournies, now 2 civ decks wreck ship and next set we'll see mono-civs have their limelight. To boot, there's a greater variety of decks in DM that boast top tier quality without having the best cards. My friend places top 3 with a deck running Darkness that doesn't have a single Terror Pit. Without a great number YGO's staple cards in your deck, good luck to winning.
All of that is only mah opinion, of course...
I am willing to take smaller sets over larger ones if the gameplay is tighter due to the lowered occurance of crap cards. If the sets were bigger and still retained the low numbers of junk cards, then I would completely welcome a set size increase in DM.
