Here is the real information about the duelmasters invitational circuit. The tournaments are called Duelmasters QT's (Qualifying Tournaments). These tourneys will be regionally based and will feed the Duelmasters national invitation only National Championships held summer 2005 at an undisclosed location.
Nope - 5 Civ events are just "tune-ups" for the regionals.
Jan 1 thru Mar 31, 2005- National QSR promotion distributing 100 million cards!
Jan 15, 16 - Survivors of the Megapocalypse release event
February 12 - next 5 Civ event (new box, new hat, new promo??)
DVD / VHS release "The Good, The Bad, and The Bolshak."
Do you wonderful WoTC delegates have any idea when the first qualifier will be?
Because it would be nice to know what sets will be legal around that time--early prep. Hehe. I think my store mentions some sort of 'championship-like' event for Feb. 26, 2005--I wonder if that is the date of the 1st qualifier or something else.
Will WoTC still be doing the Gen Con Championships or does this new circuit replace that setup so now Championships will be invite only? (like YGO)?
If that is the case...I had better take the Regionals more seriously and not play "just for fun." Tehehe.
Do you know how the invites work? Like only the winner of these events or does it trickle down to like top 2/3 players?
Just glad that I could shed some light on these issues. Hope to see you Las Vegas on Jan 15th for the Survivors of the Megapocalypse release and on Feb 12th for the nest 5 civs tourney.
I would guess that the Regionals would be timed after the snowy North begins to thaw -- get past Easter Sunday, and then the circuit will go into full swing. That would put March's 120 card set into the card pool.
If Wizards follows the Pokemon Super Trainer Showdown model -- even if you don't finish in the Top 2 (and probably get airfare and hotel paid - also earn 1 to 3 byes), you can still travel to the Championship site, pay your way in, and play in the event.
Even though I am a Delegate - this is merely a guess on my part (basing all my suppositions on my 3 years experience with WotC and the Pokemon tours).
When I know the specifics (and they give the Delegates the "thumbs up" to make the knowledge public) -- I'll post it to DMRealms.
