I always seem to mess my games up by jumping the gun on the attacks. I awlays seem to burn them too quickly, and end up with all set glads. I know one solution could be get more minions and let them do a lot of attacking, but does anyone have any advice on strategy's to keep your team unset for more than a few back and forths of the flow?
This game requires good timing and patience. Start will a little buildup first and if you find yourself "set" more than you would like, simply pass and wait to see what your opponent does.
Ending the Wave with an unset Gladiator isn't the worst thing because if you need some defensive options, they are open to you.
Have a good balance of (+) and (-) cards in you deck. Sometimes handing over the flow forces the opponent to make a move he/she may not want to. And if they pay super-defensive and refuse to attack, the get some hits in and simply pass, which will leave them losing.
Heh... keep in mind as you read this, I play with my opponents head as well as against his cards...
for the first wave, pace yourself against your opponent, see what he is doing and react to it. this first wave will give you a good feel for what his decks primary style is. Deliberately play a negative action or 2 just to make him come and get you... those gladiators are still thereto attack with, so dont be so anxious to let THEM know what YOU are doing. If they come out swinging right off, intercept one, so you have the cheer to say "ok, thats enough, for now" and then come out with what you need to get done to defend yourself.
One game, I won the opening role for flow, then immediately said "Pass". I didnt give them the flow, nor did I play a negative action, I just passed, wich confused the hell out of them, and made them think more about what I was up to than pay attention to their own cards. I found it a nice distraction, and I trounced them in short order
My point being that although the object is to kill your opponents Gladiators, patience and strategy gets it done better than just bravado and attack. Without cards from your hand, killing a Gladiator in the first wave is VERY difficult to do if your opponent is awake, let alone paying attention, so dont bother trying it.
I like to spend my time, setting out minions/pumps, building up, and then ending the wave with a full on asault. During this time, the opponent uses up CP, and is less likely to be able to use Defensive cards/heal.
However, sometimes a gladiator is posing a threat, one is being built up, or the opponent is just taking out my minions or setting my gladiators. Then I switch and attack up front. Though healing ticks me off when I do that.
Still, in either case, I usually have at least one gladiator who doesn't attack and incercepts and/or protects, taking it for the team.
