my friend uses a deck where half the cards counter anything I do --- card suggestions
my friend uses a deck where half the cards counter anything I do (magic jammer, seven tools, mirror force, trap holes, sol judgment, spellbinding circle) (yes, we use restricted) What kind of cards should I use to stop him? I have some of them of my own too.
But if I summon a monster, and he's not destroyed by that, he dies when he attacks.
I guess the obvious are Harpie, Tempest, and Myst Space Typhoon? Right? Well he just counters them too. He's like Yugi, he always has the right card down.
I'm guessing it is a counter deck. My suggestion is overwhelm him with monsters. He will only be getting a set amount of cards. His traps aren't unlimited. Honestly, most of the decks that many are playing now could beat it. It obviously isn't an unstoppable deck, otherwise that would be the meta. it could be that you aren't playing your cards to your fullest. I'm not saying you don't know how to play, but if your opponent activated trap hole and mirror force already, it is pretty safe to assume anything else he places face down will be a countertrap for a spell or trap, and that's when you take advantage. 3 Royal Decrees might work, too, if he relies so heavily on traps.
Jinzo should prove useful too, possibly Elemental Hero Wildheart for those Trap Holes and Mirror Force, as well as anything that would affect him (except for cards that negate the summon).
It is. I was playing our national champion at the shop, with a deck that sort of relies on certain traps and countertraps to protect assets. He violated me with jinzo all day. He summons jinzo, I activate solemn. He flips decree, chains call of the haunted bringing back jinzo. That sort of stuff. If any deck relies on traps for anything, the combination of Jinzo and triple decree will hurt it extremely bad. That's the very reason decree should have been limited two lists ago, it makes 25% of cards in this game unplayable.
Winged Rhynos is lovely as well, especially against solemns on the summon.
Wait, what? How can Winged Rhynos' effect activate against Solemn Judgment? Not only is Solemn Judgment Spell Speed 3, versus Rhynos' Spell Speed 2, but Solemn Judgment negates the summon, before any effects can take place, as we've seen with Wildheart and Jinzo...

In continuation with MagicMaster87's call, how can Royal Decree, a spell speed 2, be chained to Solemn judgement, a spell speed 3? If there is a long chain, the one with the highest spell speed goes first, so Solemn Judgement should take priority before Royal Decree. Can someone verify this for me, because I am quite sure the Solemn would activate first.
There is lots of miss-conception about Spells Speeds in here.
First of a Spell Speed 1 can not be chained to anything.
Second a Spell Speed 2 can only be activated in response to a Spell Speed 1 or Spell Speed 2, effect given the correct timing for it.
Third a Spell Speed 3 can be activated in response to a Spell Speed 1, Spell Speed 2 or Spell Speed 3, effect given the correct timing for it.
So only ANOTHER Spell Speed 3 effect can be chained to an already activated Spell Speed 3 effect. So once the chain finds 1 Spell Speed 3 in it, if there are no more Spell Speed 3 effects to activate the chain can no longer continue and it will have to begin resolving backwards.
That's as simple as it gets. There is no priority involved here (unless player activity is in between), there is nothing else, just simple chaining mechanics.
So if I understand right, in the case of Solemn and Decree, if the player activates Solemn, Decree can't be activated to counter it because it is too slow, is that right?

Player A plays Jinzo. Blue Solemns the summoning. Then, after Solemn has resolved, Decree is activated and, chained to Decree, call of the Haunted, to bring back Jinzo.
