I was going over the checklist for the OCG Ancient Prophecy set, and came across a couple of cards I would like to draw attention to:
Black Shining G
Lv.1/EARTH/INSECT/200atk
When 1 Synchro Monster is Special Summoned to your opponent's side of the field, you can remove from play this card from your Graveyard to destroy that 1 Synchro Monster.
This card should seemingly be run in 3's in a ton of decks. It should be mandatory 1 in Main, and another 1, if not 2, in the Side Deck. This is what a Staple should be like. I will list a few more tomorrow, as I just got super tired, lol. Later, Chris.
the only deck i can see this havign a POWERFUL presence in is lightsworn. being as the yarent synchro based in the beggining. it will be a good way for them to easily level the playing field as far as that goes. so, if they cant have synchros, you cant have synchros, kind of thing.
i can see dd crow gaining some additional use again because of that and the rise of the use of pot of avarice ect. depends how its ruled with that new blackwing vayu the flag as well
i dont believe that card will be a staple anywhere except pherhaps in LS as mentioned.. theres another card in the set i think its a continous trap that doesnt allow synchro monsters to be synchro summoned but its destroyed after 3 turns
It might be teched here and there, but it won't just be suddenly thrown into Main or Sidedecks, much less in 2s or 3s.
You may as well use Solemn Judgment or something given at least that negates the Special Summon entirely (despite needing half your LP) while Black Shining G does not. (It's basically an all around Trap Hole for Synchros to your opponent's field.)
This means the opponent could still use priority to activate any effects the monster may have, if possible, before you could actually activate G itself which, depending on the Synchro, could pretty much make its use completely moot as the damage (or at least some) would still be done AND the opponent could still Special Summon it back later too if they have a method(s) to. (As, again, it does not negate the Summon, but merely destroys it upon being successfully Special Summoned to your opponent's field.)
So yeah, Lightlords would make the best use right now (along with, of course, Insects) while other Decks might be able to tech it, but I wouldn't expect it to just start showing up in every Main/Sidedeck after it comes out.
And the Continuous Trap in question being...

Continuous Trap
Neither player can Synchro Summon any Synchro Monsters. During your 3rd Standby Phase after activation, send this card to the Graveyard.
Super Rare
Yes, they can as Stardust Dragon has been successfully Special Summoned face-up on the field, thus is able to use its effect in a chain to Black Shining G's activation.
Well, the thing it really has above other things is the fact you can simply remove it from your Graveyard to activate it, thus not much cost you...downside being, as said, it doesn't negate the Special Summon (so priority can still win) and you gotta take up a slot or 2 for it when it's used.
At least it only cares that a Synchro Monster is Special Summoned in general and not just Synchro Summoned, thus not making it too restrictive.
Agreed, the real problem here is getting it into the Graveyard before your opponent can start Synchro Summoning. Unfortunately it still doesn't help a ton against Synchro Cat since that deck can generally spit two Synchros out at a time. Sure you've taken down one of the threats, but the other is still looming. I wonder if this is one of those cards that looks better on paper than it is in practice.
Well, that's why, as said, Lightlords could make good use because of their constant milling costs/effects. Most other Decks would only have Foolish Burial or something. Maybe against your "standard" Deck, it could work alright, but yeah, against something like Synchro Cat, it wouldn't be very useful given they tend to swarm out Synchros.
After all, people thought G. B. Hunter would end up used quite a bit at first because of its effect (and 2000 DEF wasn't bad) with Gladial Beasts reigning, but it's really never (been) used.
This card is far too situational to ever become a staple, even in LS.
That's my main concern now. Is it really worth adding this card to your deck to stop a single Synchro that your opponent might drop onto the field? Most decks are already running Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, and Solemn Judgment which are far better and more versatile options to get rid of a Synchro monster.
Lightsworn is already tight on space, I'm not sold that players would want to give up more consistency in the deck to run a non-Lightsworn monster that may be useful at some time in the duel. At least with Necro Gardna you are almost guaranteed to activate it's effect at some time in the game so you don't take damage.
Again, if it only worked when a Synchro Monster was SYNCHRO Summoned to your opponent's side of the field, it would definitely be too situational given it'd only work on the initial Summon. However, it works when a Synchro Monster is Special Summoned in general to your opponent's side of the field, which DOES happen more often than one may believe. Of course, it doesn't happen 1+ time every single turn, but it does tend to happen often enough that it won't simply be a dead card a lot of the time.
At the very least, it'll force your opponent to either wait until they get something that can remove it from the Graveyard before (assuming they use anything of the sort in the Deck), thus stalling them from Synchro/Special Summoning a Synchro Monster OR force them to waste a Tuner and non-Tuner(s) to get out a different Synchro Monster one may want to use G's effect on.
As I said, it won't be a staple card, but it might be teched here and there. It'll probably end up like G. B. Hunter and end up forgotten shortly after some use though.
Yeah, I like Mirror of Curse Words over G. B. Hunter too.
Swallow Flip is ok. I'm sort of 50/50 on it. The main problem with the restriction on it is that there aren't a whole lot of (used) monsters (besides some Gladial Beasts in those Decks) that activate BECAUSE of itself/another monster being Special Summoned. ("When this card Special Summoned..." or some variation on it like Fusion Summoned, Synchro Summoned, etc.) And priority doesn't count either so anything like DAD, Judgment Dragoon, etc won't let you activate it if the opponent uses priority.
Like G. B. Hunter, Decklock, Mirror, and other things, it was really made specifically to counter Gladial Beasts more than anything else...but now Decks seem to only be part Gladial Beast (Gladial Cat and whatnot), which lessens it a bit.
