Here is a Republic/HL army I have come up with, let me know what you think about it. Here is what i plan on doing. The J-37 is for carring and repairing the Towed Arty, Maxim carries the SRM's, and the peasants are for VC3's, cannon fodder, harassing etc. The rest is pretty self explanitory.
I had to look twice at your point totals because 4x HL hoverbikes = 56 points and 2x RotS Balacs = 96 points, but it is indeed 500 points. If only I had Mason Dunne!
The J-37 will let you do the "artillery dance" if you are facing counterbattery fire. The Balacs keep those pesky infantry away. The Hoverbikes for harrassing, basing, VC3, etc. Maxim/SRM for 12 attack AP formation with a 15" scoo-n-shoot for VTOLs or mechs.
Mason is possibly weak v. Arnis (but what mech isn't?) since a charge will drop Mason to a nine attack, forcing Mason to use his CC for 1 damage on a roll of 11 or his energy weapon for 2 damage + 1 heat on a 13! Not my kind of odds. Maybe you could drop one Balac and one Peasant and put in a RotS Lamprey and a Cavalier. That would allow you to deploy the Cav and base Arnis, negating a charge.
I KNOW you don't want to make every army an anti-Arnis army. The Lamprey/Cav is a flexible and useful combo.
Said a few things in the HL Strategy Thread, but I'll give you the brief version here.
Good semi-competitive army. Probably arty shy with only 1 unit in 500 points. Enjoy the 12 attack on Mason, just be careful it doesnt spoil you and make it all the more frustrating playing regular HL forces.
