I sent a polite email to wizkids customer support ([email protected]) asking that they PLEASE consider adding testing of the charging speed of 'Mechs to primary speed instead of 2x. 'Mechs are just a much a reason that other 'Mechs are not fielded as lesser units. It makes little sense to do all these wonderful improvements to make fielding 'Mechs more viable, but then not include a fix that will otherwise make people *still* not field many 'Mechs.
If it stays as is.. we'll see more 'Mechs I'm sure. Unforunately, they will all be fast cheapies, forestry 'Mechs or BR Legos.. others will still be collecting dust, or getting whammed for lots of damage from 18+ inches away.
Just email and ask they also consider testing either:
Change a 'Mechs charging speed to their primary speed value.
Or failing that...
That 'Mechs must have a clear LOS before charging.
I would hope the first would be considered first, but I would like even the second fix rather than having none at all!
The time to ask for this change is NOW! Waiting will perhaps delay a possible fix MONTHS or longer (if at all!) Now, when they are seriously considering making changes to improve 'Mechs is the time to ask for this!
Voice your opinion! They apparently DO listen! So keep on talkin'! :p
In the current environment with TANK DROP and artillery warrior - Mech has the advantage of charge - it is the great equalizer against Transport, unprotected unmovable artillery, and put your mech into base contact against shooters right away.
Charging Mech is going to help as well as triple strength myomer develops, making mech more useful for gameplay!!
I just did a search on wizkids on your player history, fleabitfox, you play like what 2 games? I don't think you know what the current environment. Mechwarrior Dark age is not your old battletech. Charging is simply - gun blazing full weaponry firing and not simply bash-em, smash-em robot.
Please try to formulate intelligent discussion and talk it over with your battlemaster. These matters are being handled as wizkids but do not E-mail bomb them. Charging is fine the way it is and Missinformation likes them too!
Fleabitfox, I really like the pics you download and so on, but I don't really think you have a good grasp of the fundamental concept of MWDA if you only play 2-3 games competitively.
I think charging should remain as it is, as a charged mech is highly vulnerable to counterattack.
Well, it is obvious from the WizKids website that they read these forums. If you post a thoughtful and coheriant post, and others agree/disagree/whatever, then it will all be taken into consideration.
I think that charging is a good thing. A lot of mechs have poor range, while other mechs or vehicles have high range. Let's say that my SC koshi is facing that SW catapult...you know, the one with 16 range. My opponent is winning vc1 and vc2, and no one's got any vc3. So I really need this kill. If I can't charge double my speed, I'll never catch him. If I can charge him, and do so, he can still hit me on his turn, so it's not really unfair. If he wanted, he could have even charged me on his previous turn. In conclusion, charging is good.
Oh, I see.. if I don't actually play *sanctioned* events, I can't possibily know what I am talking about! heh.. ok.
You say charging is fine? That is certainly your opinion. There are many who disagree. MANY people.
They are considering changing the rules.. have you not read the posts? Or at least testing the changes to the rules. Which should render 'artillery' and 'infantry' warrior obsolete. Thus you don't NEED charging to counter poor game mechanics, if they actually make the changes suggested. Having a mechanic in place simply to counter another bad mechanic is just a bad idea.
No.. a charging 'Mech is not a 'Mech charging with all guns blazing. This would be called 'Alpha Strike'. Charging is literally running into and going hand-to-hand with another 'Mech. Dontcha read the books or play any other 'Mech games? :)
I did not say to 'mailbomb' them. I said politely mail and let them know you want charging looked at as well. Obviously, if you support this idea though. You fully support charging as is? That's fine, don't email them. I myself don't find that 'Mechs being able to in effect, attack at a greater range than 'Mechs at twice the cost for just as much damage to be unbalanced. I've played many a game where 'Mechs charging 'Mechs decided the game. Basically you have a weapon that can fire further than any other that any assault 'Mech has, does more damage in many cases, can be fired around corners ala streaks, often at half the cost of other 'Mechs. hmmm...
And further, with the increased points in a game, people can field *more* of the cheaper, charging 'Mechs. Again.. why are you going to field a 'Mech if it can get pummeled with a lesser cost 'Mech? Or two? Or three?
Miss never said 'she liked' it.. she said they were going to wait on the charging issue until all this other stuff is addressed. If she does like it, I wouldn't know. But of course, the day she purchases all of the boosters in stores, I suppose that her sole opinion will matter above the players who say.. actually *pay* for this game, eh?
I am not saying be a jerk about it, I am saying bring to their attention this issue now while they *are* in testing mode, before it is too late, and we must wait another 6 months or a year.
Of course, if you personally love charging as it is, this really wasn't directed at you.
nothing in this game has what could be considered a high range. ICE mechs should not be ourruning my LRMs. That' LONG Range Missles, not Lazy ######ed Mimes.
Please DON'T e-mail WK with this. All that will do is spam their various e-mail accounts and annoy people who are just trying to do their jobs. WK is aware of almost every opinion on this board. They will deal with charging when and if they think it is appropriate. E-mailing them is just a way to annoy people. And people who are annoyed usually try to do just the opposite so as to spite the ones annoying them.
Um.. they are a business, not my parents. I don't think doing the opposite of what the mass of their *paying* customers would like would be a very wise business decision, if you know what I mean.
And it is an assumption they read any board with regularity. I would guess they read their own more than this one, but really.. as a consumer there is nothing wrong with trying to have your voice heard.
From what the Miss said, it sounded like they didn't want to toss too many rules out at once. That she was aware of the charging, but wanted to take care of these issues first. Well.. it doesn't hurt to ask to try and get additional issues looked at. It could literally be a year or two before charging is corrected if it isn't done now.
I am as much an advocate of getting ranged combat back into the limelight as anyone, but I think we should focus on playtesting these changes and seeing how they affect things before screaming for more changes.
I am not saying charge changes are not needed, totally the opposite, but what is needed may change because of the new rules, and the bottom line is that things need to change slowly if we are going to avoid the rash overcompesation and unbalancing that has plagued MW so far.
Rome was not built in a day, and these are a big step in the right direction, if only for the openness and nothing else. Flipping the game dynamics upside-down all at once is the mistake WK has been making all along. Now that they seem to be giving us more input on things, let us not make the same mistake.
DON"T FIX SOMETHING THAT"S NOT BROKEN!!!
Wizkids ALSO TOLD us not to e-mail them about trivial issues!!! They are AWARE OF IT!!
--------------------------------------
Most people in this board has no problem minds charging. Good players can stop charging by proper terrain placement and basing with infantries or infiltrating vehicles.
If you don't play tournament, you should not affect our tournaments. I think if you are a good tournament players, you should know how to handle chargers! In your home playing you can play whatever house rules you want. In fact we play a fun style at our non-sanctioned gathering where we use a combination of CBT rules and MWDA figs!
Informed gamer is what we need. I know you fans are enthusiastic - but ill information will just affect the current status. Wizkids have good people doing testing for them! I am glad of the recent change...but in case of CHARGING
Dang...Charging is the most pathetic rules this game has...and some people actually think it's fine?!? Ok...Maybe my newbieness is showing through...
I am in FULL support of the charge = walk distance. And not only that, charge should do less damage...if even just 1.
Seriuosly...Rules should not be added to the game simply because they can be. This isn't gundam. Mech's can't do somersaults and flying leap kicks...or, can they?
Charge already ignores any armor SE. And it does more damage than any other attack (except DFA, which is also only walk distance). I just can't see how a tiny mech can charge a larger mech and actually do MORE damage to it. Ya, I know...this isn't about realism you say...But, this goes a little TOO far imo.
Bumper bots is my nightmare.
Now, I do believe Wizkids are reading these boards and are aware of the current problems/issues people have with the rules. I'm not planning on emailing them since I'm sure the new set will have rules that alter some of these things.
But, something needs to change. Charge is one of the reasons I can't see myself playing this game with the standard rules...
I'm thankful for this post...Because the more it's exposed, the more likely it is Wizkids will see the problem for what it is...A problem.
(ya, so it's my opinion)
P.S. I'm surprised the rule changes posted for testing didn't include anything about charge.
@SYB: Like Fleabit said, Wizkids aren't like our friends. Businesses should expect to get Email daily pertaining to their products, and recieving messages adressing problems that people see should be common place. Do not try to personalize Wizkids as though they are your good buddy that gets pissed off like the any other person would. They are a company, and will serve the customer.
I do not see a need to tinker with charging. But then again I am the minority who likes to charge and I admit it. Eliminating charge will do nothing but weaken a significant faction; there is no need for me to go into that explanation again. Moreover, for those of you who flame me every time I post my option have fun, yet again.
Leave charge be, it is obvious that Wizkids does not deem it as such a horror as some of you do, otherwise it would be in the proposed rule addendum.
