OK, I know that everyone is excited about the proposed rule changes and would rather see them made permanent now than later.
But let's calm down a little and let us not waste this chance.
We were asked by WizKids to test these changes, not to blindly accept them just because they are the first changes offered to us.
So let's test them, try to abuse and break them and offer WizKids the best possible and on point feedback we can instead of becoming mindless yes-sayers.
Well said, Bewulf! It's a start, somewhat turning it back into Mechwarrior, not Arniswarrior, VTOLwarrior or Artillerywarrior. But, it still doesn't address VTOL madness or Charging.
A simple fix for charging would be to say something similar to the folowing.
A mech may charge another unit (besides an infantry piece), however, the path of the charge must be straight and in one direction, and the distance must be no less than the walking speed of the mech centre dot to centre dot.
This wording stops people from making snake-charges - where they dont take a direct route, and makes it so you cant have a 3 inch charge unless the mechs movement is 3 inches normally...perhaps its a bit restrictive, but it would really allow more mechs to be fielded I believe.
Another fix for charge would be to have mechs still take 2-3 clicks of heat but not allow them to run and charge. If a mech had to rely on it's printed speed value most mechs would be either in range of other units or could be better avoided. Just a suggestion.
I've just tested the "perfect" fix... a 23 defence mech in 450/3... the best mech with an attack of 11 still needs a 12 and took 2 or 3 heat and then is at complete disposal of my mech :D

To this point, we completely enjoy this minor wording change. we have been using this exact rule and it has blunted the edge on charge but not eliminated it. it put the range combat back into mechs. you can actualy use terrain to your advantage and avoid charges and so on. we have been using this rule for a few months and it is just a blessing on the game.
