Rotor hits.
I was flipping through my WH40K Tau Codex, and I got an idea:
How 'bout, when attacking VTOLs, it goes like this:
Roll to hit
If the VTOL is hit, roll a d6.
On a 1 or 2 the VTOL goes to NOE, is immoblized, may not make any order except unload (if it's a loaded transport) and takes 5 clicks of damage.
This simulates a shot hitting and nerfing the rotor, causing the VTOL to crash to the ground.
I dont think that would work, if you hit a VTOL it already is blown half way to #### with just 3 damage. giving it a one in three chance to completly go to #### with maybe just one point of damage is making them way to weak, there already paper as it is.
VTOLs are fast and have the ability to move and shoot. Arguably one of the best units in the game at present. The only problem being their fragility. They can't take hits.
Your suggestion, while sound....doesn't apply very well in this instance. I used to play WH40K, and while the location (to hit) roll worked there, it won't work here.
I tested it at my venue, and the only complaint was that the rotor hit should be only 1. Otherwise, VTOLs were dropping like flies. Stupid unlucky dice-both them and me.
It's a neat idea, but the real issue of VTOLs is it's nearly impossible to get a shot off (at the 16" range one, which is the only one that truly dominates).
You make all hits 20 clicks if you want, if that first hit is impossible, the rest is irrelevant.
