Okay... so the HL and RotS are getting shafted in CounterAssault.
I know a way that both factions can wind up with a roughly-equivalent number of units, and a truly great faction strength.
THE LOYALIST FACTION.
Campbell is loyal to Damien Redburn. Maybe formations won't work the same way, but for "faction purity" in all later events like Faction War, have Highlanders and Sphere count as the same army, so that units from both factions can be used together.
It makes sense as fluff. It helps gameplay (a lot of units complement one another well; RotS get repair units like the J37 and J100, HL get high-attack units and good nonunique 'mechs). It allow for some still-cool looking armies, with grey, maroon, green, tan, and black.
And it means that together, the Loyalist faction will not "split percentages" the way Highlanders and RotS did during the previous faction war.
Think of it. Highlander Donars supporting Republic Balacs in VTOL formations.
Both got screewed over in Counterassault. Now it's time for the REAL Counterassault.
"Stone’s legacy lives in us and our drive to protect his dream." (Motto of the Republic)
“In the name of Devlin Stone, we will survive.” (Motto of the Highlanders)
It's time for Tina Magnusson-Talbot and Tara Campbell to unite their forces.
That might work well on side of the fluff and would give reason to all faction pure players to use minis from both factions in same army. This would also truly make stronger faction with everykind of units in it.
Indeed, that's the plan. Though there will inevitably be some redundancy (both have Padillas, SM1s, DI Towed Field Artillery, Cavalier, Infiltrator II and Achileus BAs, Regulators), neither faction is currently at Bannson's, Spirit Cats or Dragon's Fury level of strength.
The Highlanders have inexpensive, long-ranged units with some staying power. The Republic have expensive, well-balanced units that are more powerful and aggressive. The Republic could form an "elite" with the HL as "line soldiers" and reserves. Could work out well.
Honestly, i think it's great that your standing up for what you are beleiving in and you want the game changed and all, but i have an issue inside myself. it's called a cold, black shriveled up, tiny heart. SO STOP WHINING!!!!!!!!!
really though, i have nothing against either faction, but come on....:knockedou
I doubt that will ever happen as far as an official WK policy, and I would argue (along with many others) that the Highlanders are quite capable of holding their own in faction pure play. In Faction Wars we came out in te #3 spot while the top two (DF and BR) had approximately 40% of the total players. Even Warflail will say that, properly played, HL can be powerful in totally Faction Pure play (except against DF's ever overdone Maxim/Schmitt drop).
On another note, though, I see no problem with combining the two and still not offending the faction purist within oneself. Of course, this depends on the condition that the Highlanders constitute the main arse-kicking power while the ROTS stand by in support roles (all they've done the whole ####ed time while HL does their hard work!!!). Gotta keep it truly in line with the fictio, obviously.
OK, so maybe i do get lots of cool NEW stuff and all, but the hl can definitaly hold it's own in any situation. all their armor and everything makes them so untouchable that their like herpes, they won't go away! LOL!!!
This isn't a whining thread, so don't make it into one, BeAtdown. It's about the proposal that HL and RotS get the option to combine forces, both for gameplay and story purposes.
It makes sense from a story perspective. Gameplay -- I think so, but I'm curious what other people think.

We suffer from low attack number, low speed, and little to no special equipment. Our one advantage of high defense and armor is easily overcome by charging, artillery and the proliferation of armor piercing.
That said we excel in large, single faction games. I think joining the two factions in unrestricted faction pure games is a good idea.
What about the SH? will they join the Girl Scouts too?
You know, if i sound negative about all this, it's because i'm just kidding around, all i want is everyone to have a laugh or two. is that so much to ask?
Just please, don't hurt me! LOL LOL LOL!!!
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! you guys, hurt me? ha!
