well, I'm starting to finish up my DF collection and it to the point where I need to start thinking of a second faction to start collecting. I'm not interested in the factions strengths or weeknesses, I'm already aware of most of them. what I am looking for is interesting backround information and fluff. I really don't know enough about the other factions to make a decision though. So that's what I'm asking for. I'm asking people to tell me which faction they think is the most interesting history/fluff wise. Examples would be nice as well. Thanks for your help!
well, I'm not that sure either. I know that I don't want to collect SH or Merc (wolves Dragoons) because of their clashes with DF (House Kurita) historicly. I always play faction pure, and fluf even affects how I build my armies (ex. I try not to play Wolves Dragoons in a faction pure DF army). I guess i'm just looking for some interesting tidbits of information that might help me decide on a second faction. that's all...
Without a doubt, I think SC is the most fluff wise option for your DF army. These two faction have some sort of "unoficial" alliance (I think this information originates from the Miguel V dossier), which seen logical given the relationship between Clan Nova Cat and the Draconis Combine.
I'd say go for Spirit Cats too. I play faction pure DF and faction pure SC as my two main factions. As stated above, they have a loose alliance. I think that the Nova Cats (the group the Spirit Cats come from) gave Danni Haag's Arbalest to the Katana Tormark as a gift. And like hcomp said, Miguel V was sent on a mission to discuss a possible alliance between the DF and SC.
Plus I think the SC have a cool background. Other factions attack planets that will give them an edge in future battles. The SC, however, attack planets which come to them in visions. This makes them very unpredictable and that is pretty cool in my opinion.
I would advise either Spirit Cats or Steel Wolves as good places to branch. The former has a bit more fluff, and the latter is more challenging (but VERY satisfactory when you do) to play.
