Sorry that I feel the need to post this but for some reason I'm feeling the need. Well actually it's because I just went into someone elses thread and posted this correction and I feel like a jerk for it. So anyways. Wizkids has two armies that both could use HL for short. Highlanders which wizkidskids uses (H) for. and House Liao Which Wizkids use (HL) for.
Why is this such a big deal. It's really not but it is helpful when you are reading a thread and someone says something like: "Hey, did you see that the's HL's are getting a Kodiak" And then I think cool House Liao is getting a Kodiak. So I respond gleefully. But nope it's just that some people have not caught on to the naming conventions yet. Actually they meant the H's.
So please laugh at me, spit at me. Do whatever. But Please I'm asking nicely use the correct Naming Conventions. And I in turn will work on my grammer.
I see alot of people use LI for Liao but your right people who don't know can be confused. CC would have been a better choice but casual players don't even know what the Capellan Confederation is.
Once upon a time, WizKids referred to the Highlanders with the abbreviation HL. Then House Liao came along. First, Liao stole the Highlanders' defense values. Then, they stole our hardened armor. Now, they've even stolen our abbreviation! Well I'm not going to stand for it, any longer!
So I'm sitting down ;)
Eh, some people get worked up over the silliest things. I find it simpler to just type a little bit more and spell out "Liao" or "Highlanders" whenever it isn't clear from the context, myself :)
While I understand where you are coming from. I have two thoughts on this. First I'm not saying that they weren't, but are you for sure that they were ever the HL's, or just that's what was used on the forums. When they actually have always been the H's.
Second, even if they were the HL's at one time. that was a long time ago. I think everyone here is both old enough and smart enough to make the transition.
I guess for such a simple correction, I guess I just don't understand why people don't make it.
Originally posted by luftvier I wish WK would stop being stupid and refer to House Liao as the Capellan Confederation (CC) and Highlanders as HL. Problem solved. :)
On this board, 'HL' stands for Highlanders. I brought up this same subject a while ago and most respondants agreed that; 1) it had already been brought up several times, and 2) things should stay as is. So, I decided to go with the flow. It's no biggie.
It is unfortunate that WK tried to change things in mid stream.
Fortunately, the fix is easy - 'Liao' stands for Liao.
Phantom: you realize you are defending your use of HL (in the incorrect) context, by blaming others for being lazy.
I'm not disagreeing that there naming conventions could be better. Heck a lot better. Maybe CC or Liao. Probably many diff. ways to fix this.
Or, the easiest is to look at there little chart that wizkids provides everyone on there homepage and go by that. Then when wizkids changes a name they can update there chart and everyone will again be on the same page. It's really not that big of a deal.
Oh, me not wanting to change is not me being lazy (well, it kinda is I guess) its that old habits die hard, and I dont want to have to think that hard when I use an abvreveation.
To everyone, I hope you realize the only reason that I even posted this, is because I have been playing MWDA since day one. (Probably like many others here have I'm sure.) And I still get burned on trying to figure out what people are talking about sometimes. Quite a few times in the same threads people refer to both factions as HL, and then I try to make sense of what they hack they are talking about. Small thing - yes definatly. Small fix yes definalty. Me remotely stupid for worrying about this.... errrr hey watch it buddy.
nah, it was me laughing at myself for starting a such a dumb thread. I do feel the need for starting it, but I laugh at myself for worrying about something so petty and making a fuss over it.
