The Watch has done some intensive studies and digging. Tapping phonelines, eaves-dropping, tracking e-mail, and all other forms of espionage, and in the process have made a very startling discovery: the true reason of set retirement, as I am certain eseveral others such as Warflail have already stumbled upon.

The real reson for set retirement is no other than to remove from the pool all remotly useable highlander peices, those valuable nuggets of plastic from the original Dark Age set. Remeber Mister Caden Senn, Miss Tara Bishop, the hoverbikes, the Mist Lynx (Koshi, for you Inner Sphere surats.) Some of the biggest names in the Highlander aresenal will be removed from play. It is quite obvious, this is just another step towards making the Highlanders a completly unplayable faction.

I am pretty sure that Dark Age is going to be the "Base Set" they were talking about. It is the HL units in the expansions you should worry about.

Oi. It was a Joke man! Besides, what makes you think WizKids will not release other "Base Sets" from what I have read, which is, I will admit, not much, people anticipate the Jade Falcon set to be a 'Base-type" set, with rule books and all that.

MK Unlimited had the "best of" Rebellion and Lancers in it... I'd imagine the MW 2.0 or Unlimited will draw on Dark Age, FFE and DFA so that there are some artillery, transports and helicoptors in general circulation.

Perhaps it is actually a reverse psychology move on their part.

Make everyone 'think' that HL will go by the wayside. Then when everyone complains they only produce HL units in the future.

Think of the savings in paint colors they can reap!! And...all the while saying "you asked for it!"

As for the union, DAPL 538 is already on the move. If they can get the support of the Mining Mech Operator's Union things could get very ugly indeed.

There will always be a place for the Highlanders at the Kiddie Table at the next Mechwarrior Reunion. However, I too am concerned they've been getting slim pickings at the trof as of late. The Longbow was a cruel disappointment.

The base set everyone's looking for is CounterAssault. Think about it. No new factions. The RotS is missing. Most of the mechs are good or decent. The only ICE mechs are the Forestry Mechs(Yes I know the Raider and it's MK II version are ICE). Not bad. A player could blow fifty bucks and end up with all nons you could play.

Look for new Factions...I mean Clans and Houses to be introduced in the new sets from here on out. The Inner Sphere factions may fall by the wayside as a result of popular opinion. Save ol' Caden Senn and Paladin Levin. In a couple of years you could whip them out and give the Marik Player a scare.
