Okay, so I've been wondering about this for a while now.
I was always an infrequent frequenter of MWRealms, but shortly before I really started getting addicted to the boards, there was a big drama involving Draddog and some apparently insensitive off-the-cuff remark involving "big damage and splodies".
After months and months of mental debate (and seeing it alluded to countless times 'round these parts), I cannot for the life of me decipher what that could POSSIBLY mean to offend anyone. So if someone could clue me in, that'd be great. If it's gonna re-open old wounds, you can PM it to me. Just curious.
I think the whole thing did get kinda blown out of proportion. IIRC, basically what happened was:
When Kelly was announced as the new set designer for Falcon's Prey (which I'm not sure the name of the expansion had even been announced at the time), Kevin said something along the lines of that he thought players would like her designs because she was "fond of big damage and splodies" (or something along those lines). At the time, everyone was really really grumpy and pissed off about months of artillery/charging/tankdrop lameness without any sign of a fix to any of those mechanics. As a result, many people got pissed off because they felt that the LAST thing the game needed was more "big damage and splodies".
Really, it did get kinda blown out of proportion, but I'm not sure that was anyone's fault. Morale was VERY bad among players at the time.
