For my unrestricted event this month I'm going to try a simplified variation on the Solaris 7 format. I'm not trying to copy the rules in any way. I'm just going for an event where everyone can bring a single 'Mech and battle it out.
I'm considering the following rules. The basic idea is the KISS principle.
Quote
Each player may bring a single 'Mech with a pilot & gear. VC3 isn't allowed in this event.
Armies are assumed to be 300 pts., but this may be exceeded. If the "army" is below 300 pts, the player will gain an additional number of VC2 points equal to the points below 300 pts. If the "army" is above 300 pts. then the player will lose a number of VC1 points and a number of VC2 points equal to the amount over 300 pts.
I'm debating allowing Faction Pride cards as part of the army.
I want players to be able to play any combo they want. However, I do want a significant penalty for breaking 300 pts. At the same time, I don't want to reward taking the cheapest 'mech possible.
How about just requiring a faction pride for everybody? True Grit could be used once per turn with the owner designating the target at the beginning of each round.
So what will be the tie breaker? Pretty much the only person winning VC2 will be the last one standing or the person with the lightest mech. That will probably not be the same person who won VC1.

i like the idea, but there are a few bugs to be worked out. i would prolly have to say no using faction prides, cause that could throw off the balance of the whole "mech-on-mech"-iness that is the main idea. also, i would prolly go with cutting the difference in half when adding VC2 points for being under 300, you know, to prevent players form using the tiniest mech they have. for instance, i have a 94 point RotS Mjolnir, a 13 or so point gear card it can use, and a 9 point pilot. your way, i would get a 184 point VC2 bonus, but my way, i would get a 92 point VC2 bonus. this may kinda even out the tiny mech to huge mech ratio, which will be good. also, if the difference is odd, i would round up after dividing.

Yup, I'm aware of this. I wanted the barebones idea to tweak to something elegant that works.

I considered this.

You are right, and I didn't break it down. Perhaps I should go with the old Mage Knight formula. Just add VC2 & VC1 points and the winner is the person with the most total points.
1)every one brings a mech of every weight class (1 light, 1 med, ect...)
2) Matches are done by weight class (So 4 matches)
3) Now the important stuff, the ranking: Last man Standing gets 4Vcs, 2nd to last gets 3Vcs, ect
4) Over all winner is who ever has the most points at the end of the night
* house Rule) To keep things going if a mech is not given an order (Walk, Vent, AO, Ect) It takes a click of pushing damage.
