Is there any trick to loosening up the dials? I have a couple of v's that I can hardly move them on.

Yes there is a very easy method of loosening a sticky/stiff dial.

Just pop it off. Vehicles are really easy, just insert a fingernail or blunt object into the space between the dial and the base itself. Apply a gentle but constant force in a downwards direction. Should pop off really easily.

Then when you are done just push it back into place.

You can gently pop the dial out of the base. The dial has a series of dimples around its perimeter that engage with the pin. Sometimes either the base or the dial has been miscast or has some extra flash that gets in the way of it turning.

Also note that if you take off a mech base, you can get at the pin that engages the heat dial. Applying gentle pressure and pulling it away from the heat dial's dimples can free up stiff heat dials as well.

Or you could just push hard enough until you break you fingernail off like I did. :cheeky:
