My group uses the rules clarifications you find on http://mkrules.net/MageKnightRules.htm but when we play at our local venue the local warlord makes different rulings based on the rules docs he has from wizkids. Is there an official wizkids site for rulings? Anyhow, the two differences are:
#1
Milti-target/flame-lightning
MKrules states: each arrow delivers its own damage so figs can take more than 1 point of damage from FL if splashed more than once (overlapping FL areas).
Local warlord states: No fig can take more than 1 point of damage (unless enhanced) from a FL attack even when multi target attack used.
Which is right?
#2
Ram vs. Polearm
MKrules states: both figs take damage
Local Warlord states: polearm stops ram since damage dealt first (at free spin as opposed to end of move)
Which is right?
So is the site right and the Warlord off his rocker, or is the site complete trash and someone has the warlord rulings posted somewhere?
On the WizKids site (www.MageKnight.com) they have the official rules, as well as some FAQ and "Top 15 things to Know" stuff. There is also a Warlords document that explains some of the rules and how they interact, available only to Warlords. MKRules is not an "official" site. However, what Drake has done is copied the official rules and then nested explanations to help with understanding, and as far as I know his version has never been found to contradict the official rules. Your Warlord SHOULD have the right answers, but at least in the two examples you noted he does not. Hopefully he is open to being questioned on this as he has access to the correct answers if he is willing to admit fallability and look. Good luck.
Your warlord is incorrect. You can do overlapping damage because each is considered different attack. When you do two flame/lightnings, targetting two different figures, consider it as two different attacks, just keep in mind that when you do double or triple attacks from one figure, you can only have a main target the main target from that specific figure firing too it once per turn. If you do two attacks, they must be on seperate figures. The flame/lightning can overlap, even without the Magic Enhancement.
Your warlord is also wrong about the Ram and Polearm. Ram and Polearm both state that it is done first, but because the two priorities are both at first, you can not put a degree of order without rules, which there are none. Ram and Polearm effect each other similtaneously, but do not cancel each other out. Everything after the Ram and Polearm though in the movement action ceases to exist.
Are any of you warlords who can corfirm this? Does wizkids mail you the rules updates with every expansion or can we get access to them online as well?
I'm a warlord, and can verify everything that's been said so far.
Wizkids does not mail rules updates to warlords. It is the warlord's responsibility to go to the site and get rules updates as they are made. With the exception of the Warlord E&R (which to my knowledge has not been updated since its original version), all rules on the site are available to the public.
Admittedly, the rules are not in the most obvious of locations.
I'm hesitant to give a direct link (it could always change),
At the top of the mageknight.com main page, move your mouse over "Events" and click on "Tournaments." On that page, click on "Game and Tournament Rules."
