Insane release schedule, not a bad thing- but a good thing!
Many posters the Rabbidgerbal included have stated about wizkids needing to ease up on releases, as it's impossible to keep up to date (never even mind about trying to get many of each expansions figs)
The thought occured to the Rabbidgerbal as he did some comic store shopping today... One GOOD thing is the flood makes interest wain a bit on older stuff as people look foward to keeping up with the newest release.
An example. A local shop was doing any mage knight booster at $5, which is nice, but the loose MK singles there were sharply discounted... actually got a matrearch for $5, marter for $6, and a Snurga Longstrike for $3 !!!
So the point is perhaps it's good to be a step behind sometimes. The Rabbidgerbal urges people to look for bargains that can streach their gaming dollar. Perhaps the Rabbidgerbal should urge people to buy all the new stuff so he can get all the old stuff cheap? hmmm...
Good prices! I'd rather get the old stuff cheap for the more collectibiltiy, instead of the new stuff, since I have plenty of time to get it later. People always try to get the new best thing. This is what Azkael thinks.
:p
Very good prices. I'm doing the same down here. Yesterday I've bough Taskmaster, Martyr, Flame Minion and Uhlrick Charger for a nice price (in our currency).
I quit complaining about the flood, I'm trying to pick what I want to get first, instead. Right now I'm focusing my funds to the conquest pack, some nons I've ordered and the Titan (Hill Giant).
I decided not to get into HC or Mechs and keep buyin MK stuff, there's no other way.
My problem with the flood of releases is not that I can't afford it all(its easy to trade for the stuff you need, and ignore the stuff you dont)
The problem is:
Their has been too many flaws and mistakes in things coming out meaning they are not spending enough time playtesting. A bunch of poor quality products will kill the game faster than too many products for fans to keep up.
The Brutal Deluxe (?!) thinks that there is no need to try and keep up with WK production schedule. Brutal Deluxe buys here and there and choses what suits him best out of a wide variety.
Same as he does with his girls, it would be impossible to keep up with production, enjoy one by one.
I think that bshugg brings up a worthy point. The Unlimited rules changes were admirable in that WK was able to admit past mistakes, but ideally should have been produced BEFORE the release of the figures they dealt with.
The fact that they weren't shows that the imbalances were only actually found out when playtesting was conducted after the release of said products, and therefore the products were not ready for release.
I would much prefer products at a slower rate that were exhaustively playtested to ensure the utmost quality (not to mention the widespread manufacturing errors of Sinister due to its rushed release).
As for purchasing, sadly the same thing is not occuring here. Though the newest items are the hottest ones, singles are the same prices as ever. I am content to stick to the things that I actually plan on using. While I will likely buy the Conquest book, Dungeons never had much interest for me and I don't anticipate buying Castle pieces (although they do look very nice) or non-Atlantean MDFs.
uh, Malleus, didn't they have the unlimited sac and runlebook along with a list of changes available on their website before they released unlimited officially?
Yes, but the changes made dealt with figures that had been released in the past. Ram for instance was changed to not work in formation, but the change was made over four months after the first Ram figures that could be used in formation were released in Whirlwind.
Double based figures were significantly changed in that they could now double their speed after breaking if they had charge or bound, and could deal shakeaway damage roughly nine months after the first double based figures were released in Lancers.
NO matter how much WKs playtests stuff, they are still going to find things that don't work quite hoq they intended because the real tests come when you have the public at large playing and trying to take advantage of different possibilities. If they play tested even longer, I am sure interest in the games would wane since many people require new stimulus constantly in the gaming world. (Note: I said many, not all, not most, but many people need new things often)
