Why is it that whenever there is a discussion about a piece, someone usually states that it's not a good piece because it can be beaten by (insert unit here)? EVERYTHING can be beaten by something. Why do so many people insist on searching for that one particular godly unit that does not and will not ever exist? Why is a piece bad just because it can't kill everything out there? Will someone please explain this to me?
My 2 cents here ( okies 1.6 cents with inflation but round up and bear with me)
I think one of the reasons people do this is because often when someone sees a new figure they run around shouting " look, look" thinking it's the end all of end all. All figures have a weakness and so weather it's out of annoyance at the cockiness holders of these figures display, geniune niceness trying to show someone the weakness of what they have, or just the " my figs better than your fig" is probably dependent on the personality of the person.
It should be obvious that no 1 figure is going to be that crucial "game breaker". The designers go through a great deal of trouble to be sure these figs aren't created unintentionally and certainly would never mnake one purposefully. Wiz Kids would quickly recognize this and erratta it somehow. Besides Part of the fun of MK ( at least IMO) is the diversity it allows. Making the 1 "killer" fig would force everyone to play with that fig and the games would merely come down to who's dice roll better. And if you want to play that game may I suggest craps in Vegas.
I'm in no way a psychologist so perhaps I'm way off and it's some deep seeded ediople complex or perhaps low self esteem issues but that's just my 1.6 cents
I think mighty_cell was close. There are certain figures (Gunners, Arties, Priestesses, Shaman, etc.) That are good at what they do for a good point cost. People will first determine what the new figure is supposed to do and compare it with those that do the same thing or something similar. This was the case with the comparison between the Elven Demimagus and the Mending Priestess (and posibly even the Corrupted priest). Both have the Defend, one heals, the other blasts. Blasting costs more than healing but the figures were comparable on some level. In theend it is a matter of opinion and playstyle as to which piece in these A vs. B discussions is better. Wizkids does a good job of not making any figure that is strictly better than another and so the comparisons will continue.
A couple of *REAL* super figures would kill the game
It's good that each figure has a weakness, if there were truely unstoppable figures it would ruin the game.
Part of it is about "usability" too. some people aren't using the figures for maximum benifit or with other figures to create something powerful.
a ranged figure is likely to rot in close combat. most close quarter figures don't do anything if they get picked apart before enguaging the enemy forces.
The Rabbidgerbal hopes people just enjoy the figures and try them out. it's just a game and about having fun right? SO loose a game or two, just enjoy some time with friends.
