Who in the realms would participate in a scenery contest. The base would have a standard template. I am guessing that deep water would be a little too easy. But if I did this the following is how some one would be judged.
Most realistic looking tereain piece
Most playable
and most creative
The reason I am asking is because I am debating about running this for My stores grand Opening in the next couple of months. I just want to know how it will go over.
Any terrain done in 3D will hamper a figures ability to stop on it. Trees would prevent certain areas from being stopped on. While the concept is a good one, in practical terms terrain should be flat for ease of use in games.
But this is only my feedback. Take is as you wish.
froby1kinobi -- Not necessarily. If you check out some of my terrain here (follow the terrain link), you'll see a copse. The trees are mounted on seperate bases, and can be moved (or removed) are needed. Ditto for the ruins.
I used molds from Hirst Arts. They're pricey, but well worth it if you are going to make a lot of terrain. For dabblers, I recommend either finding someone who sells terrain or buying the blocks pre-cast. (If you check Bruce's website, he has a link to some company that sells the bricks, individually and in kits).
Garou - I have been to your site and your terrain is excellent. I do not have terrain (or any modelling) skills what so ever and apparently didn't think about making the trees and other obstacles removable.
So after being shown the error of my ways, a terrain building contest seems to be a decent way to promote the Grand Opening of a store. I just wish I had such modeling skills.
froby1kinobi -- Glad you liked the terrain. If you want to learn how to build terrain, check out Terragenesis. It's a great site, lots of kewl links, and some really nice stuff. Good for beginners and advanced alike!
The Rabbidgerbal has links in his signature web page to get you going making terrain. Terragenisis and worldmakers really do rock!
a way around the whole terrain thing is a cardboard template under the fancy terrain. when things get moving around in the woods lift off the terrain and use the felt template underneath.
The Rabbidgerbal plans his terrain with figures as he builds it, just making sure say the walkways of a castle can hold a figure or two side by side.
