Hi all, I'm new to HeroClix and actually enjoy the game. I have been doing a lot of research on Mage Knight Dungeons and Rebellion. Dungeons looks like a fun game but I'm worried about all the negative posts saying that the game gets boring fast. Now the question I have is, how does Rebellion work. Like I said before, I'm new to these types of games and I'm sure I'll have lots of other questions, so please, bare with me. Really looking forward to some of your inputs.
Rebelion is more like a traditional wargame. It does not use a board, like Dungeons and HC. Rather it uses an open tabletop where things are measured in inches. The rules of HC were derived from the Rebelion rules so there are a lot of things you will reconize, and a few rules you may not have seen before.
Like HC you build and army and do battle, there are also scenairos to play. Rebelion is much more about small unit tatics and combat. There are rules for Formations, or groups of figures that act as one. There is a lot to do with terrain. Terrain is a very important part of Rebelion. Many MK players like to build their own terrain.
Overall the main difference is setting. MK is set in a fantasy world where Magic is possible. The figures that are available are based off of this magical world. Where HC is set in the Marvel Universe.
I play both HC and MK and there is a lot of overlap, but ther are some differences. I like MK more because it focuses on small unit tatics and combat.
Thanks for the reply DNAphil, that does help. I still would like to know if Dungeons is a fun game and is it worth trying it out. Like I said previously, I see alot of posts saying the game gets boring fast and happen to notice some posts saying the game is too hard cause the Hero's get wiped out fast by the Spawns. Have you played the game? Since you play HeroClix, I can relate to your opinion.
The dynamics of Heroclicks might be somewhat better than dungeons
Heroclicks offers loads of stuff that dungeons doesn't have... like team bonus powers, the levels of the mat and flying at hover and throwing stuff around.
The Rabbidgerbal isn't saying that dungeons is junk, but the premise of tunnel crawling is limited and reccomends looking around for peoples house rules to spice it up... like trap cards someone mad up that might spring and such.
Rebelion (the figures of dungeons and all the other mage knight figures can work in rebelion style games) is by the far most unlimited in senarios and ideas to try. If you like the idea of a game like warhammer, warhammer 40k, chainmail, lord of the rings, or any true miniature wargame but are intimidated by the complexity of the rules wizkids trys to make miniature wargamming simple and fun.
Right now tanks, chariots, and mounted figures are not allowed in dungeons and a giant is coming soon, unlikey to be in dungeons but offer loads of different feel figures. Even rules for large scale battles are coming out with catapults and the like. good luck and have fun!
Actually Dungeons is an excellent game - but it is not to the taste of most Rebellion players. Dungeons is designed for multi-player group play with heroic teams - most Rebellion players play head-to-head two player games. HeroClix is closer to Rebellion overall but if you have a group to play with multi-player games then Dungeons is a blast - with lots of deep tactics and game strategy.
a mix of Dungeons and Rebellion.
It's playing on a mat without measuring, but with the battles.
though Dungeons could be fun (we don't play it that much) Rebellion requires you to work out strategies/armies and really interact with you're opponent that's why we like it better.
Dungeon is a great game. I must admit it needs some tweeking but if you add in hero parties, the artifacts, and multipule maps it is an exciting, challanging, and fun game.
Rebellion is a tactics game based on small units and harassers it is far more fun than HC, but then again that is only my opinion. There are also large units such as the dragons and titans which are also alot of fun in bigger games.
P.S. I hope that helped my friend. Good LUCK!:D

to tell you the truth if dungeons was more like hero clicks i would enjoy it more. i like the ability that teams can do together. dungeons is not so hi on the list. it wouldl be fun to make the "dressings" for the set but, i would rather play rebellion. larger armies and such. and it is easy to get into. alot of people play it and would probably give you figs for free or give you a really good trade deal.
