-.- It depends on the army type, what pieces you have and want to use, how you play...just saying "what's the best unique for 200" is about as useful to us as saying "my collection consists of a bunch of pieces. What do I do with them?" Wanna be a bit more specific?
I've tried this army against several opponents over the past week or two and in one tourney. I will often change the backup, but have kept the Striker & Reaper in the army. I tried a Mancatcher & Noble Archer *** once and that played well (for capturing), but I like the punch of the Gunner. I even tried to play the Destroyer instead of the Striker, but didn't have as much luck.
Another alternative is to replace the Striker with a Storm Golem in order to get multiple targets, but I like the flight of the Striker. I've also used this with a Magus and another Reaper. Bottomline, I go for a really big hitter and a strong charge supporter.
Finally, one other figure to consider is a Hitash Levat in combo with a Technomancer. I played against this combination about a week ago and almost got cooked. If it gets within its charge range or gets ML'd to you after you've taken a token you almost have to push to attack or move or you're going to get fried.
I always try to use at least one unique, but not spending too many points. IMO there are some very good uniques which can be used in 200 pointers not demanding lots of support:
1 - Wraith
She's awesome in 200 points. Ram is a problem, but there are ways to counter attack (charge for example).
2 - Chaos Mage
Makes great ranged formations with Launchers. Pretty difficult to play with him, but very very fun. His points cost and abilities make him more than playable in 200.
3 - Centaur Champion
The best sinister unique IMO. 59 points for a figure with several possible roles (bodyguard, main attacker, heavy captures attempts, anti harasser)
4 - Wyvern
One of the best heavy harassers, for 44 points. Flight with good speed, venom, high defense against ranged attacks.
These are some of my favourite uniques when playing 200 pointers.
The Magus Drac, Lich, Destroyer, Wraith, and Magus. Great set of abilities (esp. Lich and Destroyer). How many times have you heard an opponent go "Like where in the bloody blue Technomancer did your MB'er get Ram?" or "How am I supose to kill the Lich now becasue he keeps regenerating?":D . The Chaos Mage can be a blast to play (Summoner probably even more so). And the Centaur Champ-OMG:eek: .
i agree with the Centaur Champion, Magus, and Wraith
but the striker has more of a chance to be swormed in 200 pt battle
its good for 300 but i personaly whouldn't take in a 200 pt. army
the taskmaster is good but only if u have good support troops even in a 200 pt army u can fit alot of orc
if u do use him keep him protected because hes hight points for his command not fighting ability
I can't seem to get my head around using the Wraith as a key unique in a 200 pt army especially when my opponent has good range or a fast mover.
The Wraith has real value as an attacker when in hindering terrain and someone makes the mistake of going b2b on her. However, every time I've played her in a 200 pt army my opponent just ignores her, stays away from the terrain and picks off my other figures. Then when I finally bring it out of the terrain the range doesn't seem long enough.....it's probably just me, but in a 200 pt army I'm not sure if she's the best figure to use ?
The Wraith is not best used by sticking it in hindering terrain and waiting. The best use of it's stealth ability is by placing a low wall along the side of the battlefield and utilizing that so that it can move around quickly without being shot.
It has 12 speed so it can close with almost all of the ranged units you will see in 200 points. It has great stats throughout almost all of its dial and can usually take out at least its point value (usually more) of opposing figures before it goes down.
It can be used as a highly mobile anchor. It can control a large portion of the board with its 12 speed and 8 range. It can be used to keep your opponent away from an area so the rest of your forces can manouvre into a position to be brought to bear.
It is not a piece like Magus, which is likely to be your single biggest offensive threat. It has to be used in conjunction with the rest of your army to be of greatest use. It is a loner but should not be left unsupported. It is not a huge beatstick on its own, but is awesome when used well with other figures.
Wraith or Magus are two great uniques for a 200 point army.
I agree on most of the points that Narcissus has already made. But I think that Magus can also be left unsupported and still be effective. His firing range, arc, and potential for big damage are always a big threat and he can effectively cut off big portions of a battlefield just like the Wraith. Even figs with MI have to respect his 4 normal damage that he starts with. And only 68 points? #### he's good!!
Well Quark now that you mention it, The Matriarch is always my personal fave. I mean just check out her tight booty. That's one fine work of plastic! She might be overpriced but she makes up for it on sheer sexuality alone. Hell with the Magus! Man I need to go look at my Matriarch right now!! ;) ;)
