I recently aquired a Troll Gunner, and formed what is, in my opinion, a decent formation around him.
All Right, here is the formation list, followed by an explanation:

1 Demi-Magus ***
Obviously, this is not an actual "Formation", however I call it that because the figs stay in base contact the whole time.
I send the Demis out in the actual formation, in a horse-shoe shape, with the two ends towards your opponent, and the Gunner in the center, with his front Arc facing out the gap of the formation.
Then, I can blast at opposing figs for 9 clicks each (Enhancement's a #####) Or Flame/Lightning formations for 6 clicks to each figure. Now, obviously this crew is not a deadly force, because most of the Gunner's arc is covered, but that is what Magic blast is for. Every Demi-magus is enhanced by at least one of their counterparts, so you are guaranteed at least a 2 click Magic blast. I Just like this formation because it annihilates everything it crosses.
But, I am a moronic jackass, so, tell me what you think, would ya?
Just a fun no unique army. For friendly games. The whole formation would have a defense of 17 thanks to the CP. Then it has a huge arc. with two of them side by side.

this group costs 165 points.
Only 52 of them are a real threat.
113 points of support to a 52 pt figure seems to be an unbalance.
Your group can indeed inflict heavy damage ,
but the chances that it will EVER DO that damage are very small.
This group is extremely vulnerable to everything that outranges them , and that is not so difficult since everybody here has ONLY a 10 inch range.
your group will give first shot to all kinds of figs like : Amotep Gunners , Artillerists , Strikers , HOSTs , yo-yo'ed Scorpem Gunners ..... what have ye.
One succesful hit on your Gunner , which should not be very hard given the low Dfense (15) and your group is practically wasted.
Melee armies with 10 or more speed can go b2b without you ever getting a shot off.
I'd suggest , drop a bunch of the support troops and add some more muscle and range.
A better combination to start with would be :

***Demi-Magus
able to move in formation ,
longer range ,
enhanced once is alright ,
you have a lot of points left to add the necessary help.
A better formation would be 2 troll gunners and 2 Elven demi-magus.
This would allow for better coverage of the playing area and a Magic blaster and enhancer with defend; to boost the defence of the troll gunners to 16.
A Corrupted Preist can replace 1 Elven Demi or be added to the formation(daisy chain defend), and add healing to the army.
Another advantage of this formation, it that it moves in 1 turn.
Better yet try 3 *** Troll Gunners with 2 ** Demi-Magus. This will also allow you tp combine shots to kill those pesky uniques. I bought 10 of these suckers from a well known web site (they were 2.50 then, they are now 3.50) and they are worth every penny (I bought 29 Sinister Boosters and never pulled even a yellow Gunner).
In Conquest try 5 *** Troll Gunners with 4 ** Demi-Magus and a Mechanic for a real mean group.
I had 2 squads like this in my July Conquest Tournements and in 2 consective Games killed a GFD by my 3rd turn......
dragon player let you get close and ignore you?It has so many shots with F/L it should have roasted most of your enhancers (3shots from front and 2 regular from side)That's 5 shots into a formation that only need to hit your 15/16 def. with 5/6 on side and 2/3 from front
Your formations are good but why spend all the extra pts on all*** gunners when 3 or 4* +1 or 2*** will give same result and give some free pts. to help elsewhere
He was trying to take out the tower. Both players did not realize that a combined group shot was goinf to be A15 / D10 (times 2 groups) with a 3rd assist from Stormy D6 with ME also. Second turn - pushed eveybody. Third turn couple *** magestone lords (hiding behind some Utman Guardsman) finished him off (exact same scenero for 2 games/ 2 different opponents). I WON a GILGARSH with this army!!
The best version of the Troll Gunner IMHO is the weak one, considering points cost vs. stats and abilities. You're able to make a formation with three of them for the cost of two tough ones. (99 points - three weaks vs. 104 points - two tough).
Borg's formation looks good, with a tough TG, a weak one and a tough Elven Demi Magus. There are points left enough to support the formation.
Easy healing, raised defenses, 2 attackers enhanced twice, backup magic blast enhanced once, but at a cost of 2 actions to move. It's effective (as proved to me by another player who took the formation to the top to face me) but it's too slow for my tastes. Can't wait till EL gets a forcemarcher of some sort.
The first post is what newer players who don't have a lot of figures make and it's called a death star. This usually comes as a result of not having many good ranged attacking figures to use. However spending all those points to raise 1 attacker up means that your army is shooting only every other turn and is probably not going to have a lot to shoot at to begin with.
