I would like to contribute to the developement of a forum or perhaps a new part of this website devoted to classifying and explaining Army Archtypes.
I think this would be very useful to many gamers new and old.
Think of all the abbreviations we have now:
MLRam
Bone Toss
Yo-Yo
Fling and Ping
The Tank
KI Swarm
GA
Swiss
I know there are others. We talk about these all the time but often I think people have differing ideas on what they mean. Also it shuts out some people from the disscussion because of the slanguage barrier. So I propose a dictionary of sorts.
Primarily it would be a reference source for gamers new to these boards. There should be a definition section. It should contain the concept, tactics, terrain selection, and typical examples of each archtype. Typical variations might also be explained. Then there should be a section for discussion, and banter about what beats what and how you could adapt the army for various situations.
I know I would love this reference source, because I am a frequent reader here, but not enough to keep up with all the changing Acronyms.
I hate trying to ask what a "Fling and Ping" is, and wait for a kind person to acknowledge and answer. I would rather read up on it first.
What are your thoughts on how can we make MK Realms take this project on?
MKRealms has never been a place to keep reference material on top of any forums or devote an area specifically to tactics and strategy since shakti left the scene. It would be nice if they did but mods are typically to busy to look into every idea that comes out to make a forum for this sort of thing that they can actually keep updated.
but that is the reason for my post. If we show enough support for the idea, it may become reality. Perhaps this is a great thing for Drake the Lesser to take on, but he is already busy, and would declare himself unfit to be a guru of tactics and such. He could be great but he likes his persona as is.
it is here that i learned the archetype armies..... and it is what i use to playtest new theories. run a new idea against each of the archetypes and see how it fares. But it shouldnt be merely a definition, but more of an exposition of the various armies and how they are used, relative weaknesses, etc. and should especially include all of the top armies from recent tournaments.
i.e. i think the striker/zombie baron GA army is worthy of special mention, and that HOST/OST and charger should be explained...all with links to the conversations. I would also include the troll arties and the atlantean cheese armies and the stormie armies and deathstars!
Chariot with Jarl and something else
Striker plus other stuff
One Stone Thrower poo poo
Two Stone Thrower poo poo
Abuse the rules on time (you can always blame WizKids)
Abuse the rules and hide like a chicken (you can always cower behind the guise of a "strategy")
Corpheus cheese
Original army that will lose
i like the two story poo thrower.... no wait, it's a one stone poo thrower or a two stone poo-poo thrower! but my favorite is still sticking different characters on chariots and throwing in some poo.
Bone Toss (what the f-ck is this?)
Yo-Yo (what the f-ck is this?)
Fling and Ping (why not just call it pingpong?) (what the f-ck is this?)
The Tank (what the f-ck is this?)
Swiss (what the f-ck is this?)
bone toss: Magic levitation and bone golems. if you don't have bone golems use wood golems and call it wood toss.
yo-yo: this army involves moving a shade forward 12", causing your opponent to free spin. then you Magic levitate your shade away to safety. the net result: their guys are facing the wrong way! w00t!
fling and ping: use nothing but figures that do 1 damage to ping your opponent to death. fling of course refers to the recurring magic levitation theme here.
the tank: choose figures that last a long time (wood golems come to mind) and move them in one large group. ie "the tank".
swiss: this army was designed deep in the alps by sven guterpoonertang. it involves whatever the heck the swiss metagame is heavy on.
