When minions was released I was suprised at the amount of Limited invis figs in the set. It seemed to me they were trying to help out melee armies, but in truth all it really does is make the really long ranged stuff even harder for normal army designs to kill. I did some testing in 300 pts but was never really happy with my design. This past weekend was ChicagoCon and I was able to sit down with some excellent players and do some testing and army building. A design that was tested really caught my eye. It combined 2 huge ranged bounders with LI and excellent support. I wasn't sure how effective it would be because of having a lot of points tied up in 2 figs. I was wrong because the two players using it met in the finals. Big Bound seemed pretty fricken good.
The problem is that the army contains some hard to get LE's to work effectively, namely Bakus and Khumeret. Lucky for us Wizkids is now giving away the conquest LE's as prize support for events and they are getting easier to get a hold of.
There were 2 versions of the army played, but since both players may want to post the army themselves (its theres after all) I will only post a rough template of the design.
Bakus
Khumeret
mounted rammer
Levitator
1-2 LI figs
other support.
The army if played properly has relatively few bad match ups, and is especially good against the big figs that have been over running tournaments lately (stone throwers, Strikers, Amazon Drac, etc). It seems weak against an army packing multiple attackers, but terrain, mobility and insane range makes it relativly impossible to fight it effectively, with out moving up under a barrage of attacks. It is possible to build a hate army for it (all LI or something) but the extreme that you would have to take to do so would really weaken you against the rest of the field.
take a guess he wants 2 85 point figures and a mounted rammer (WHK*** any one or mochoch) thats already over 200
just a guess at what one of them were playing but if I was gonna play an army like this and I had an insane amount of money to spend on the little peices of plastic I would make an army like this
IMHO, I think the imp would be a bad idea Sweetwater. He is 7 points begging to be killed by your opponent. As for the shadow, his 6" charge range and 9 attack really cripple him. While the shadow DOES give you a second LI figure(useful), the 7" charge of a *** Light lancer would serve better(if one doesnt have access to Elroodon).
Honestly, WKura's army is better because having a level 2 Autumn is A TON better than a level 1. A single ML/Ram shutting down YoYo for even 3 turns can be bad early in the game - sure, Autumn can break and get healed, but by time she is ready to ML something a few turns will have passed.
Wkura - I take it you were either first or second? Who was the other?
EDIT - NM, I see your signature; so who was second? and Congrats, how much did you win?
The price tag is not really that bad:
The Khumerets are in circulation right now for pretty cheap, and Bakus is going to be coming soon as well. I suppose an Amazon Drac or another bounder can substitute for Bakus until he is available.
Like I named the the post, This style of army will be showing up more and more, and you can really expect to see it by summer next year just in time for the Cons.
Here's a clip from a post you made a few weeks ago:

I have done some testing with AD/Bakus armies for ChicagoCon. Its got a lot of first strike power but not a enough sustained offense to really keep going. It had a lot of trouble
What makes the double bounder in 300 points work now when it wasn't recommended last month? Does Khumeret's lower cost simply allow for 22 points more in offense? Or is it better now that people have been tinkering with it some and we've seen a few players be successful with it?
Heres what was wrong with the AD/Bakus army and why the khumeret is better:
Amazon drac is too expensive only allowing 1 real other attacker while bakus/khumeret allows 2, also the Khumeret can fire in to the back ranks taking out key support like levitators and healers that really caused problems with Drac/bakus. You would wound something bad but couldnt finish it because the opponent would move something else in front to block LOS. With Khumeret its not that easy.
Being able to fit 2 other attackers (a rammer and charger in Wkura's case) combined with the ability to actually make kills and target support really makes the army shine.
Wkura really wanted to fit in a toughness rammer the night before but couldnt seem to fit one. This version loses very little but gains the toughness rammer and another ranged attacker. In general I prefer the kruggs but this is a viable alternative and does cut the $ cost down a bit.
I chose to use Athene over Bakus becuase she is alittle more accessable then him and she is less points, allowing for the Technomancer which I think is an important part. Autumn can't M/L every turn and everyone, so I liek the addition of another M/Ler. I am however missing the LI in this army, but I could downgrade the Impaler to Hachetkrugg and Horned to Lancer, that way i could fit in one Crystal Protector, but I don't thik that one will make that much of a differance.
Let me know what you think of this army. Thanks for all the comments.
I think you can leave the charger away altogether in this sort of army as everything breaks easily and add a 3rd Bounder accompanied by a Shadow to serve as a bait for the 3rd bounder if its having difficulties to get into play. In this case you can use the Shadow along with the extra bounder during a turn to set up an additional threat. The Shadow breaks easily too and the 9 attack will do if its being harrassed.
I'm curious how you yo-yo with only 1 levitator, or do you use the LI to block lOS so you don't have to YO-Yo one of the figs. I to have been toying with two big bounders, but the choices I have to work with are KoC, AD, and Corpheus. How would this work as a substitute until bakus was more readily available?
AD 108
KoC 86
Autumn lvl 2 34
*** War Impaler 44
* Crystal Protector 13
** Crystal Protector 15
Zaxan: Your army fits the style but lacks a LI blocker to protect from other ranged. Its what makes this army so frustrating to attack against. I haven't really playtested it much, just posted some of my observations. The LI may not even be nesessary and the second Lev fig better, but I know from playing against it that the LI fig was the most trouble for me to deal with.
BrutalDeluxe: Im not sure what the most optimum build is so perhaps a third bounder would work. I really like having the option of F/L in my armies so perhaps working in a scorpem would be nice. Shadows are great figs, but I wouldnt sacrafice a tougher charger for one unless you have no other LI in the army.
SupaMojo: The single levitator is just there for options. You can do the yo-yo thing, but just as often use it to position the rammer or charger with out having to give it an action. It adds a layer of versatility and finesse to the army that allows you to outplay non lev armies. Fitting a second may be more helpful but you would have to do so at the cost of an attacker. The army is already light on attackers.
As for using Corpheus or AD in this style of army. Sure it would do pretty good against a lot of things, but then you can't also fit the same amount of versatility in the army. It may be workable but maybe not, depending on match ups and what your areas metagame looks like.
well , my experience for this army is , ( i've bin playing it for 2 weeks , i even played it at a tournament , if you don't believe me , borg was there , )
i played bakus , khurmet , autumn lvl 2 , yellow and red crystal protector , red warhatcherkrugg and a yellow techomancer
bakus has way to litle damage ,
the 3 damage pierce is not really something to go for and the 11 attack is also dangerousley low ,
khurmet is a very usefull figure , but with very low attack
i attacked more with khurmet and made good use of terrain then i attacked with bakus , all i did with him is kept threatening so they didn't get closer to my ml machine
also something you find out if ,
you loose againjst someone who is playing 3 sprites and a magus draconum ( of all the freaking ods )
this is the 300 point army i've bin tinkering on to replace bakus with an amazon draconum
autumn lvl 2
amazon draco ,
khurmet ,
the problem you have after this selection is that you only have 72 points left
blue light cavalier 33
blue crystal protector 15
red imp 8
blue shade
2 blockers , one bodyguard , 6 actions in total , 2 bounders , one ML , 2 healers ,
