What exactly is the point of cavalry anymore? When double based units first came out, there was nothing to match their great charge, bound, and speed. However, now that single based INFANTRY are gaining these exact same things, what is the point? And please dont tell me breakaway rolls on anything but a one. The fact remains, cavalry are slowly becoming obsolete. With nothing to show for their higher than necessary point cost other than good breakaway rolls, cavalry are losing their role of what they should be- A MAJOR threat to ranged attackers, and the ultimate flankers. Now double based units are just expensive units with massive bases that dont get free spins. Tell me, what exactly is the point of some bounding unicorn trackers when you have units like the AD, Corpheus, and the OST (!!!!!??), skyros who can bound or charge farther than most bloody cavalry? Units like this are becoming more and more common, I fear for the cavalry, and while they are still viable units, their downfall is atleast something that is foreseeable in perhaps not the NEAR future, but it will happen. What do you all think about it? (And please keep in mind that I am NOT saying all cavalry are useless, just that they seem to slowly be losing their purpose and their abilities are being given to non cavalry, single based uniques)
The only reason calvary are sucking now is because they have been shafted for 3-4 expansions so they don't get any new stuff we will see what we get when the next expansion with them comes out.

Couldnt agree with you more T, only problem is, that has already happened. Corpheus, skyros and AD all disgust me. No non mounted unit should be able to move that fast. In fact, nothing should be able to move significantly faster than nearly EVERY other unit in the game-totally defeats the purpose. My main problem with MK is that there isnt as much balance as i would like. The game relies on people buying as many packs as they can hopin to get that uber unique. All units should be atleast SOMEWHAT on par with eachother.
While I agree that there are some balance issues it is still not as bad as it seems. I do agree with T that mounted units need some love though. While there are a few uniqes with problems, most mounted still run circles around other units.
I think you are way, way off in your judgements. I also don't like the 20" moving figs. However mounteds are still way, way over powered. They are in just about every competitive tournament army these days. The easy breaks, shake off damage and ability to block LOS, makes them undercosted, especially with there fast movements and extreme bounding ranges.
Yup, consider that their center dot can be safely hidden and their back part can block is always cool, so its the shake-off. It's saved me from the AD many a time! And the Reapers are still some of the most potent units. Also dont forget the Scorpum Gunners. And why not mention easy break away rolls? They dont have to pay for flight for the same ability, seems fine to me.
I'm with bshugg on this one. Mounted units are still way up there in usefulness and ability. They tend to have much better stats than single based figures and better speeds. Shake-off alone should be a reason to get some. Think about it. You get two extra inches of reach and can deal an automatic click of damage to those pesky high-defense figures without even needing to attack. Most of the best ram and charge units are mounted, and many of the bounders as well. Have we forgotten Bakus? Also think about the EGM. Such a large area for defend should never be undermined.
Not to mention you can only have 1 AD, Corpheus, or Skyros and you can have 20 Fell Reapers (If you have 20 trade me some! ) or any other non-unique mounted. That in itself helps to balance it out some.
I love my mounted KI Chargers, the flying AG Crew and the Boney Necro guys are nice too, and the steam powered rams of the rebels.. not to mention those crazy mounted Mage Spawn guys.. well cept the Shyft one's unless they are unique and the Unicorn Lizard combo is cool for the EL's and we all love orcs.. So yeah I still use mounted.

i think it would be a grievous error to call mounteds "way way overpowered". Not only do mounteds cost more than a standard unit of the same abilities, there are many abilities that limit the power of mounted units. Polearm, while never used by many people, will still put cavalry to a screeching halt. Also, the HUGE base makes it more susceptible to attack, and shake off damage is WAY overrated (it only works outside the front arc). However, I think you are missing the point of the post. Cavalry are slowly being worn away by new uniques, and single dial figs. If anything is overpowering, it is the conquest and dungeons units being incorporated into standard MK.
Have you played against Mounteds with the shakeoff rule? I have. It's a fun decision whether to base him within his front arc (where he can hit you) or outside his front arc (where he can still hit you).
Aside from that, there IS such a thing as style. There's a difference between just winning and looking good while doing it.
I do agree with the criticism that mounteds should be the fastest figures on the field. As I said before, I am disappointed with the speed of Corpheus and now Skyros.
