Tactics and Secrets: A great new Mage Knight feature is the colorful costumes available to warriors, depending on their faction and subfaction affiliations. In the case of the Atlantean Swordmage, players favoring earth tones will choose the Weak version; its umbers and siennas are perfect for effective camouflage in fall campaigns. (Oh, yeah, it’s also an inexpensive warrior with great defensive prowess due to Parry. Its ranged attack potential gives it valuable utility for such a cheap point cost.)
Looking for more color in your army? Go with the Standard Golemkore Swordmage in its snazzy purple outfit, accented with trademark Atlantean gold highlights. (Not to mention its potent ranged combat attack with Overwatch. Its Field Repair ability gives it an added value in Golem-heavy armies.)
When you need to make a bold statement, the obvious choice is the Tough Swordmage from the Imperial Legion subfaction. Smoldering red bracers on a field of white will clearly raise eyebrows. (Don’t forget the 3 clicks of Weapon Master this warrior can surge or double time into, either. There is no better way to cause a commotion than have your common 28-point warrior start busting heads!).
History: Originally stemming from the legendary School of Surok, the recent trend of militarization within Atlantean society paved the way for warriors who wanted the magical edge of Technomancy. Armed with a vibrating manaclevt sword, an awesome lightning pistol, and a Magestone crystal surgically implanted in tehir skulls, Atlantean Swordmages are trained in a variety of martial and magical forms that allows them to shred, burn and flay nearly enemy into unrecognizable paste.
Design Note: The Atlantean Swordmage is a great example of the new Mage Knight look. It was one of our goals to have an army of warriors from the same faction look like a cohesive force on the battlefield. The result is clearly evident in the Swordmage. A player fielding either a faction- or subfaction-specific army will be rewarded not only with powerful game mechanics, but also with an attractive army of warriors.
OK, the fig looks good, but what's with the different factions per level of rarity? Yet another piece of MW incorperated to this new game that is 2.0.
For example, the weak version might be of the Golemkor subfaction, the standard might have no subfaction, and the tough version might be of the other subfaction.
This should keep people from whining about pulling a "weak" figure... depending on their army, the weak version may be exactly the best one... and the difference in weak, standard and tough is no longer just clicks of life and depth of abilities... each figure is totally different... It'll definitely make players have to pay attention to the colors on the field...
interesting concept. like it was stated before, different subfactions for each level of strenght. i can see the point, but now we are going to have zillions of groups running around with all these subfactions. seeing that there is a choice of being a subfaction on this fig I have a stinking feeling that there will be no making formations with the old figs.
allenchan
I dont get the whole switching subfaction things for the same figs. Seriously. Dont get it at all.
This one probably represents different training for the different individuals the one fig represents. one brother got drafted and went to boot camp. One brother was good with machines and went into golem core and the last brother enlisted the year before, was a good soldier & wound up in the imperial leigion.
I Love the huge differnce between the figs. As it has been said before, having different capabilitys on each level of rarity will help the yellows and blues see battle.
another good looking 2.0 Preview, *, **, and *** will be different by more than a few points and a stronger click or two...
and the different sub-factions just add to that differentiation further. 2,0 is looking better and better, I like Cold Snap Domain a lot also...my only complaint, I want to see more Uniques in the sneak peeks!
