Mage Knight 2.0 Final Domain Sneak Peek - Open Terrain
Open Terrain
Play Tip: The competitive player's first response to this Domain will be simple. "I'll just take this to every tournament, it will stop all of those nasty Terrain Domains!" Mountain Pass? We found a plateau! Haunted Graveyard? The ghosts are out tonight. In multi-player games, this domain might get into trouble. In the competitive tournament scene, where one on one battles are the norm, Open Terrain will rule them all! Right?
Well, in one match anyway. The Mage Knight tournament rules will specify that each player will be required to bring one less Domain then the number of rounds. Four round tournaments, for example, will require players to bring 3 Domains. Each Domain will also have to be unique for the player who brings them. Check back Monday for the full set of Mage Knight tournament rules and answers to all your questions! The challenge will then be to decide, do you hold Open Terrain for the final match, or do you play it out early against an opponent whose Domain may short cut your strategy? Hard choices and strategy are all part of the new Mage Knight.
History: Standing exactly 20 paces apart, with nothing between them but air and short-cut grass, Vanek and his opponent considered one another in silence, feeling the eyes of dozens of Khamsin observers watching as their hands hovered over their pistols.
Perhaps this duel wasn’t the wisest thing I’ve ever done, Vanek thought, but honor must be satisfied.
High overhead, the cries of eagles could be heard as both gunslingers watched, waiting and tensing.
Then, the moment. The draw. The double echo of black power weapons answered by the shocked cries of women, children, and comrades.
Vanek flinched from the impact. His fingers numb from the shock, he dropped his pistol as he fell to his knees.
Honor, he thought as darkness swallowed him, is sometimes all we have left.
This Domain is horrible!!!!! It does not give more strategy, it simply eliminates the whole idea of domains in the first place. Why bother figuring out the perfect Domain for you, when this just cancels it.
I like the idea of only being able to use 1 Domain in each tournament round, but this Domain is terrrible!!!
This Domain basically negates a whole aspect of the game.
They better ban it in casual 1 round play, or Domains are worthless.
take a chill pill grill
domains will give each player an advantage...now this is just another way to get it. It will be great for swiss armies...but rangd armies will perfer clear skies, and a werebear army would still prefer blasted lands, so it all equals out
That being said, I would have prefered that this domain wasn't made, but after hearing the rules... I think it wasn't that bad of an idea to include. Although it may be a little tough to do that Aquatic army you always wanted, you can get some other terrains that will do well with the army (a Flood Weather Domain card anyone?).
Though this card isn't as exciting as I would hope, the rules sneak peak was cool!
Does this mean if you don't have adequate number of domain cards (I would guess 4 will be the magical number since our venue normally has 5 matches) then you will not be able to participate in the tournament ? What is the ratio of domain cards to boosters (i.e. 1 domain card in every 5 boosters ?). Is there a full listing of all domains yets ?
Eh, why one domain per round? This is turing into a gamble.
Why cant you just bring one domain thats tailored tro your army?
Or 4 of the same ones? Where on earth will I get like 7 domains whcih just kind of work with my army? Silly idea.
This is supposed to be CONSTRUCTED.
I belive what the concept is is that not every battle field is the same. Fight in the deserts of Africa and then fight in the swamps of flordia, i think youll notice a diffrence. Heck if you fought your way across the united stats the terrain would change every few miles. I think it adds a fine taste of realisim and possiblites. it makes it seem more like your fighting over a large area rather than just a small section.
And now there's no more making an army around a domain... I like this A LOT. Now no more worrying about an all-melee army just using the range shutting down domain. Guys, this is going to make the game pure strategy. By the way, that's a GOOD THING.
