I have seen a lot of negative threads about 2.0, with some running in the high double digits as far as posts go. Now, don't get me wrong, everybody has their right to complain. There are some things about 2.0 I am not too hot about either, but I enjoy the game very much. I think its a pretty fun way to spend an hour.
Am I the only one with these sentiments? I am really curious to see if other people will actually admit to enjoying playing a game of 2.0 (even with no prize other than the satisfaction of victory on the line).
I don't think any of my players hate 2.0. Most are enjoying the game now more than ever. There are a few who are still digesting it and waiting to make up their minds, but none of them hate it (just a few odd facts are bugging them).
Included in the "loving it" category is one player who was ranting and raving about how he hated 2.0 and didn't like that November's campaigns were going to be using the rules. Now that he's actually played, he's having a blast (tempered by the fact that he's using a friends figures because he can't afford to buy any right now).
I enjoy 2.0 much more than 1.0. I have met many people who said that they were going to boycott 2.0, or that it was stupid, or any number of negitive things about the principles, but every single one who has been willing to try a game has said that it was much better.
Granted there are still a few rulings that would be nice to get word on, but in general the new mechanics are better for playing.
As I posted this on another thread...
REASON WE LOVE 2.0
Starter $19.99
Booster $ 6.99
Seeing the look on your opponents face when you just rolled a 12 when attacking his 193 pt. Kossak with your 38 pt Maximillion LE armed with the 31 pt Decapitator...PRICELESS :D :D
I like the game. Of course if there was no 1.0 I would like it more. The charge/WM thing gets me and as stated above having the SA flight not optional, the SA card is not complete and the there seems to be a lot of problems that should of been cleared up before release. I think that once things are fixed (hopefuly) more people will be happier with it. But over all I do like it. There seems to generating more interest in this new version than the old one was.
i would like to have more elementals, but as i mostly play pure dracos, i'm kinda confortable with it.
i like the relics, the domains. and game speed.
i fail to see const. terrain utility.
i love the sculpts and some paintjobs.
i want more dracos and elementals.
Gameplay is very good, though I don't really like domains or artifacts; but I can play without them.
With all the new rules and FAQ's flying around, I'm still waiting for the game to settle down before I decide if 2.0 is the game for me. Sometimes I get pretty frustrated at some of the changes, especially if they negatively impact the usefulness of my 1.0 figures. Other times I just tell myself to be patient...
Well my first impression of this new game that is 2.0 is that it isn't as good as advertised. There are a few things that i don't really like about it. (old figs being compatable, RO3, DT and surge, objectives....etc. ) and of course these new rulings....
Granted that i havn't played it much and it might take a few more games, but so far i'm not that impressed with this new game that is 2.0.
on a side note. 2.0 isn't selling at my regular venue but is VERY popular at the store where i played the marquee.
Even though I went ahead and bought a case, I'm still pretty solidly in the wait and see phase.
I'm enjoying the fact that we have a few new players who are excited about the game and I'm enjoying the current challenge of breaking into the new strategies.
I had the least fun ever (including building my Nationals army) simply deciding how to build a well rounded 300pt army a few weeks ago because there simply never seemed to be a combination I felt could comfortably counter enough threats. I'd never expect to counter everything, but every attempt I was able to see four or five weak points that could be exploited.
I did well enough in the game and had fun while I played, but if I get as frustrated building an army every time as I did then, I'm not sure this game is for me anymore.
Perhaps overall it is a good trend for the game, but I feel it has become nearly impossible to build a competitively comfortable army. More experience may prove that wrong, and I'd never want to see the game boil down to a few stereotypes you must play to win, but you should be able to make something that you see only 1 or 2 big weaknesses in rather than 4 or 5, that simply is leaving too much up to chance for my taste.
Overall, I enjoy the novelty of 2.0 but I still think 1.0 was more focused and playable - there are too many unanticipatable rules interactions which could very easily create an 'unbreakable' army. I still like 1.0 better.
I really like 2.0, and I think it is a good system.. it has its bugs the same as any system.. but I do find it to be an improvement over the old game..
I enjoy it.......many more complexities involved. Definitely not a beer and chips game anymore. I like the 2.0 changes but I am mighty ticked! about new the charge/bound interpretations...
