April 28, 2004 (SEATTLE) — WizKids Inc., makers of the best-selling Mage Knight™, MechWarrior®: Dark Age and HeroClix® collectable miniatures games (CMGs), is proud to announce the release of the Dark Riders expansion for the Mage Knight CMG, the fantasy miniatures game that has sold more than 50 million figures since its release in 2000.
“Dark Riders creates an entirely new dynamic for a miniatures game,” said Jordan Weisman, WizKids® CEO. “In their return to the Mage Knight game, riders can now dismount; riders and mounts can be attacked and destroyed independently of each other; and riders can ride many types of mounts.” In addition to adding an unprecedented level of strategy to the game, Dark Riders introduces the Avatars of the Apocalypse.
A Dark Riders Booster Pack contains four randomly selected, prepainted miniature figures, and it carries a suggested retail price of $7.99. A Mage Knight Starter Set is required to play.

No cant say i can ever remember getting 7 figs for 5 dollars Smoth. I know we could get 4 for 6 in the Sinister Expansion. And i think it was cheaper still in the Painters Edition Expansion.
I don't remember 7 minis for 5 dollars, either. I remember 5 minis for 7 dollars... I also remember 3 figures and a mounted for 7 dollars. I remember 4 figures for 6 dollars with Sinister... and I remember last set, 4 figures and a card for 7 dollars. So 3 figures and a mounted for one extra dollar? Seems fairly consistent with every other set that has come out since the days of Rebellion.
So... since the days of Rebellion we have added a card and a dollar. I don't see where that's much to worry over...
yeah you are right i had it backwards. Although I will not be buying any darkriders. If I want any specific one I am going to hunt them down as singles.
If you aren't a collector, that makes the most sense anyway, Smoth. I dont' know why non-collector's worry about the price of boosters so much, it doesn't have a huge effect on the price of singles. A little bit of one, yeah, but not a major impact.
I'll answer from my point of veiw dbeau.. I know I am not speaking for everyone.
Well, the thing is that buying singles for me means e-bay. I have no credit card so I cannot order much online. Anyway, Most of the minis I want from mage knight are strictly to paint.
However, when I was a player booster prices bothered me because I didn't want all the minis I wanted specific ones. So I had to buy many many boosters.. Last summer i know I spent 500+ on death from above MW. I had sooo many minis I didn't want and couldn't trade away. Often time I ended up giving them away. When you consider how much a booster costs and what you get for that... it doesn't add up for me. I moved on to pewter mini games for that specific reason.
Consider that I want a specific non. I might have to buy 10 boosters to get a few of him/her/it to paint. that is 80 dollars. Where I can go to a wargaming shop.. pick out the specific mini, pay 3-5$ for it and have it right then, ready to prime and paint.
So far I've cracked open only four boosters. Not a single unique, but I've had a blast playing each figure (my wife and I tend to buy an even number of boosters, crack them open, then play a quick battle royal).
Another interesting note: while 2.0 had some boosters barely scraping the 100 point mark (making 300-point sealed tourneys somewhat dicey), each booster of DR hoovered near 150 points (with 80-100 taken up by the cavalry unit).
hmm I thought the original Rebellion boosters were 5 for $6.
But anyway, now this is out I need to sit down and read those mounted rules that I've been avoiding for the last month or so (didn't want to spoil the surprise). Somehow I doubt the local kids will read them so I better know what's going on. I can see that rulebook included in the boosers being huge enough to scare the kids out of reading it, but it's multiple languages so I'll cut them a break. ^_^
