R-047 Threadcutter
The wielder's damage value becomes 2.
At the beginning of your first command phase during which this warrior has this relic equipped, choose a single target opposing non-Unique figure. For the remainder of the game, whenever the wielder deals damage to a figure with the same name as the target, deal an equal amount of damage to every opposing figure with that name in play. If the wielder is eliminated, all opposing figures with the same name as the target are healed of damage to their starting markers.




If a rider uses thread cutter his damage value becomes two. Can you use impale and do 4 clicks and if so do you do this to all the other nons? What if you have venom the relic states when the weilder does damage to the named figure so by using venom would the other figs take the damage? My son came up with Iron wolf on the Warbirdw/Def with threadcutter. I just am not sure if the intent is to do more than two clicks to each of the nons at a time. If I could get a response shortly I would greatly appreciate it as he plans on using it Sat at the tournament. Thanks Gene

Indeed, if you make a ranged combat attack, that damage is passed on to all figures. The damage you deal doesn't specifically have to be close combat damage. You could put it on Orien II and make a 3 damage ranged attack and effectg all the figure or make a Thunderblow attack, hit 3 additional times, and deal 5 damage to all chosen figures.

Thanks for the timely response DB, just wanted to make sure I had it right for Sat tourny. Threadcutter is good for the points on a rider as he does not take the -2 to speed while mounted. The +2 Attack is good and if you put him on a unique that already only does 2 damage for 25 pts this is a great relic to use especially on a cav unit that has MC/C it can just about take out a swarm in one turn(depending on the swarm!) Any relic that has a speed penalty is a good relic to use on a mounted figure. The ideal example of this is, of course, the Oracular Codex.

Threadcutter is one of those relics that's usefulness depends on your metagame. If you see a lot of big figures floating around, it's not too useful. If you see swarms, then it's very useful.

However, combining it with impale actually might make it playable in a high figure metagame. The normal "reduction" of damage value to 2 actually becomes an increase of damage value (or, at worst, no change) for riders. Throw in a mounted unit with sweep or smite and it could be a killer.

I think Threadcutter IS useful against big fattie uniques!!!

it gives a whopping +3 to Attack!!! for most Riders, this means an Attack value of 14 or even 15!!!

How is that not good against big fatties?? A 15 can hit ANY Defense, even a 22 (Chroma with Magestone Shield or a Relic/Item combo) more than 50% of the time. Plus, many rdiers only have 1 Damage, so Threadcutter actually gives them +1 Damage also, for 25 points an insane bargain!

What happend if I use threadcutter and bracers of the giant... the damage will be 3?

Threadcutter's "your damage value is 2" clause is a replacement value, which can be modified. 2 damage from the Threadcutter, plus Impale, plus Bracers of the Giant gives your rider a beefy 5-damage strike, and kill-shot accuracy for good measure! In the absence of the Rage Hammer, I'd easily call the Threadcutter the best rider relic.

I think its a timing issue. Because im not positive, im gonna hold off on a definate answer until I can get ahold of sigma. Or if you have some time, run to wizkids forums and ask for yourself.

To me, threadcutter is the blade of the swiss army knife. Its got a sharp edge to slay one big foe (+3 attack), but it has a file (its my knife darnit!) on the side to deal with pesky swarms. Very useful, ESPECIALLY combined with smite! I DARE you to smite a group of zombie centuars, gobbos, maruaders or the likes. Watch your opponant cry tears of sadness due to the extra thinking required too count damage. Well worth your 1 click from successful smite.

if prince warden uses thread cutter + botg, and successfully hits a zomebie centar in base with at least on other zombie centaur... all zombie centaurs on the field take 10 damage and die horrible bloodless screaming deaths. =)

I've been running Mounted Threadcutter since the day after Rage Hammer was nuked for riders with great success. I even talked about Mounted Threadcutter in a few threads back in July/August and people largely discounted the idea then. Mounted Threadcutter is going to get even nastier in Sorcery, with the addition of the Centaur's Gait Spell. The ability to give a rider the Charge SA opens up MC/C to every Cavalry Unit makes Mounted Threadcutter very dangerous.

Doesn't everyone play Threadcutter...I have loved this relic from day one...the best part which I didn't see anyone mention is the fact that your rider can dismount and still have a decent attack...ok...its not like potion of dueling with WM but you have the big attack...my favorite is Tymara os Korgas w/Threadcutter...62 points total...113 with a DC Pegasus...awesome...

i want to use thread-cutter on terk-e.

do i read the elix-text correctly, if i say:

1st cmd-phase determininig lets say golem familiar

if they're all killed, i want to do followong:

drop thread cutter, and put it on again the same turn
next turn cmd-phase, i'll choose another target for thread-cutter

will that work?
