We often hear that AmaDrac killed 1.0 This is often something of a final argument.
Thus I wonder how many major tournaments (nationals, worlds, huge tournaments with recognized top players) where won by AmaDrac armies.
Please don't start flame wars, I would really like to know, if AmaDrac was THAT good or simply a bit overestimated.
The Amazon Draconum was a little undercosted, but not to much. What made it really deadly was the ability to fit it, a WHK and a few Crystal Protectors in 200 points.
Am drac won every tournament till dragons gate at my place. She was TOO abusive. I mean come on 12 movement 13 attack 18 defense (17,16 i dont know) and 5 PIERCE damage. She has dodge. Was too abusive. End. of. sentence. GIVE US ROLLEYES!!!
AmDrac was problematic to the new players at my venue, but the vets could beat an AmDrac army. And my vets included 1 in the top 10, and 4 or 5 in the top 50.
The trick to defeating AmDracwas to do 1 point of damage via something automatic - Dodge, Ram, Venom, etc. Then be sure to do even amounts of damage.
When ML/Ram got nerfed, AMDrac was tougher, but still beatable.
Was it a power peice? Sure, but the same arguments apply to Bakus, Corpheus, and other Big Bound pieces. Big Bound is what did the "damage", more than any one piece.
Kikommander, I'd have to agree with the person that said that Big Bound as a whole was killing MK.
I think that the Am Drac was one figure that many people feared, because of the unpredictability of Dodge. In the match I had for the 2003 Nationals invite, it ended up Am Drac versus Corpy... Am Drac hit Corphy every single time, Corpy's CP healed for 6 every single time, and Am Drac dodged with a 5 or 6 every single time...
Okay, yes, off topic, but I'm not kidding about all that. Yes, experienced players could defeat Am Drac, but the problem was that this one figure was so incredibly powerful that just about anyone could wield it with great effect.
It may not necessarily be undercosted, but it does what it is meant to do exceptionally well: Lay the pain on anything without LI or GF.
And for people who are going to come up and argue about how it sucks now... Remember, newer players, that Dodge was not negated by anything back in 1.0.

Here was some data I collected a couple years ago from a National Qualifier event.
Not necessarily all Amazon Dracs, but bounders were very noticeable. ;)
I think that am. drac was the easiest figure to play well in 1.0. Bakus was good, but rare/not as good and corphy was pretty much a joke imo. No corphy army that I ever saw did well, but amazon armies did do well, that is until we showed everyone how to beat it, but it sucks to have to build an army specifically against one figure (Hence the reason it was PART of the downfall of 1.0)
I do believe that before Magic Levitation was FAQed, it was also a huge problem in 1.0. I think it was called the ram gun or somthing like that. The ML figure could just keep whipping these ram figures around causing a good amount of auto damage. I remember most armies were basically the same, minor changes here and there, but they all worked off a theme. Mostly ML and Big Bound were these themes.
I guess my venue was special. I saw the AMDrac, and it was annoying, but I swear if I saw Magus Anendu and Elroodon Lightfoot in the same army just a couple more times....yuck.
The great Ram-Gun....... with special Pyre Spirit bullets.
Rams.
Venoms.
Polearm so unchargable
12" Movement so only a few could outrun it.
18 starting defense hard to hit for quite a few figs.
2 *Technomancers 50
1 Pyre Spirit 87
Seasonings? : 63
Tough to deal with a 20" ramming, venoming machine.
I found that ***Trol Artillerists work fairly well at Pyre Spirit removal duties. :D
Ram gun was not a problem in normal MK games. It's very action intensive, and with a few exceptions, the ML pieces only had it on the first click. Ram gun was bad in Conquest, because mounted nons did not have a front arc, and so could ram 3 or 4 figs on a good placement.
ML/Ram wasn't that hard to beat. A couple figs with toughness would do it.
